Your opinion on basic neccesities?

I love that movie....still.

I live in Alabama. Pretty much all you need to survive here is a shotgun,a fishing pole, and a horse for transportation....all of which we have.

I live in Southern Florida so I have to be prepared for damn near anything short of a Blizzard.

What I have listed are the basic neccesities for surviving after something like a Hurricane down here. With what I have I, my wife and our cats can survive for at least a couple of months. (Okay so I may have to forage a bit, and maybe do some fishing. Not a big deal.)

Transport here for us is easy. We have the mini SUV and the Iron Horse, not to mention Shanks Mare.

The last time we dealt with a situation where we had to dig in the supplies the worst part was keeping clean. You ever bathed in Salt Water? It cuts down the stink but it's not a whole lot of fun. Then again it's better than nothing and I've been there too. (Heaven looks a lot like a hot shower after two weeks of not bathing.)

The only disasters we really face here are tornados, and with those, either your house is gone or it isn't.

As far as surviving goes, this is probably the absolute best place in the country - plenty of fresh water, as much fish/game as you can catch, and it never gets very cold.

Sounds a lot like Heaven.

Here we have a lack of fresh water that is drinkable. (Hence the filters and water tablets.)

Fish and Game? We have enough, if you're not too picky. I could live quite nicely but the neighbors who let their animals run free and the Tree Huggers would freak.

As for cold, that depends on your version of cold. (Not to mention how you want to keep warm.)

That's the one thing we haven't yet sorted - fresh water. The river's within walking distance (only a mile or two), and we'll have three decent sized rainwater tanks in the next couple of months, but we've going to put down a bore.

One thing nobody has mentioned is air. Of course, there's air everwhere, but not all of it is fit to breath in a sandstorm. I keep a supply of face masks on hand.
