This idea is spawned from seeing the incredible anime film Your Name, known as Kimi no Na wa in Japanese.
The film is about a boy in present day Tokyo and a girl in rural Japan three years prior. Bypassing the boundaries of time, they keep switching bodies with each other mysteriously, linked by a mysterious event in which a comet split into two and destroyed the girl's town.
For the boy, this event happened three years ago. But for the girl, the movie takes place in the weeks leading up to the comet arriving. Neither of them realize there is a three year time gap between them at first, leaving messages for each other when they switch back to their original bodies each time.
Once the truth is revealed, it becomes a race to evacuate the town in the past before the impending disaster arrives, but most of the townsfolk think the girl is blabbering crazy talk, especially her father. For the boy, he desperately wants to save the girl from her death, as the historical records list her as having died three years ago in the explosion.
I won't spoil the ending, but I would like to do a similar RP. This will be with all original characters and only loosely based on the concept behind the film. This would work best as a one on one, but can also be expanded as a group thread.
Obviously, the characters only existing in separate timelines won't work well in a romance/erotic RP, so I'm thinking of spinning it into an actual time travel romance. The events can be similar to the film in a way, though:
In June 2018, a mysterious comet appears in the night sky seemingly out of nowhere, baffling astronomers. It splits apart over Earth and one half crashes down, destroying a small town, while the other vanishes without a trace. It becomes a media-obsessed sensation for years to come, attracting a number of scientists and researchers to the impact crater to investigate the comet remnants.
My character is a graduate student interning under one of the researchers in 2023, five years after the impact. He is going over photos and videos of the small town in the months and years before its destruction, and becomes obsessed with a young woman who died when the comet struck. She was a senior at the local high school, and he discovered her old social media pages were still active, including a video of her eighteenth birthday party a few months prior to her death.
He realizes she was born on the same day as him, and the more he looks into her past, the more he begins falling in love with the idea of her. Then, late at night on his birthday, he feels a strange draw to the crater, where he suddenly feels very strongly that he is standing in the exact same spot she was when she died. He looks up and gasps as the other half of the comet suddenly reappears, crashing down exactly as its counterpart had five years prior.
My character experiences a rush of wind and swirling lights, and then blacks out. When he comes to, he's laying in the woods with the girl he's been obsessed with looking down on him with the flashlight from her phone. She was in her room getting ready for bed when she saw a strange light crash in the woods beyond her home and found him laying there.
At first he doesn't believe what has happened, but finds himself drawn to her as they talk. She makes sure he is okay and then turns to go home, checking her phone. She smiles and says she didn't even realize it was after midnight and is now eighteen years old.
From here, these two develop a friendship and then steamy romance, but my guy is getting anxious as June draws nearer, knowing the comet will arrive to destroy the town and her. He's afraid to tell her the truth, though, for she might think he is crazy. He is also worried about what happens to his body in the future when the other half of the comet hits.
I'm thinking we show their building romance over a period of several months, leading up to the day of the comet. He eventually tells her the truth, and while at first she doesn't believe him, when he is able to predict certain events in the media, she finally accepts it. The two try to warn the town, no one listens, and then they stare in horror as the comet finally appears. My guy tries to grab your girl and run with her away from the impact sight, but he suddenly sees his body starts to fade away, and your girl looks back scared as he vanishes completely.
Five years later, my guy wakes up in a hospital, having been in a coma for several months since his birthday. He looks at the calendar and sees it's the five year anniversary of the first comet. He begins sobbing thinking he failed to save your girl, when suddenly she walks in the room and embraces him. Turns out after he faded in the past, she immediately made a run for it and just barely managed to survive the explosion. She then watched him from afar for five years, waiting for the second comet to ensure the time loop completed itself. Once it did, she ran up to him after the second explosion and had visited him in the hospital everyday until he awakened.
From here, we can expand further, perhaps into other time travel plots involving other comets and larger time gaps, or even alternate timelines and worlds.
