I buy my own. I have an Aetna policy with a huge deductible to keep the monthly cost down.

I live out of the country. Shortly, I will be covered under government insurance. It has its pros and cons.

It's a poll...wait for it.

Do you have health insurance?

Poll is anonymous.

What's the purpose of your poll? BTW, I'm flat on my back on a heating pad. My pain is worse. Just took an aleve although I'm not really supposed to take NSAIDs, And I'm considering drinking a glass of wine later just to get a buzz. No healthcare here.

My buddies Vetty and Ishmael have both dragged their fainting couches out of the closet today. They're both on Medicare (and probably Medicaid as well) but they're both concerned about how folks with private health insurance plans are going to suffer greatly under Obamacare.

I've heard that private health insurance plans make up no more than 15-20% of all plans, I wanted to see if Lit was a microcosm of society in general.

plus, I've worked a side deal with laurel to provide me with the email addresses of those who don't have health insurance...I sell insurance plans on the side
(just kidding)

Interesting. :)

That's very irresponsible of you.

Don't have it, don't need it, don't want it. I've always paid my health care expenses out of pocket. Over my life, I've saved tens of thousands of dollars not having it (which includes the hospital stay to have my appendix removed).

You should have health insurance. How dare you not. That's clearly all your fault and not the fault of our system here at all.

oh ok. Is that what Squibbs was saying? Let's say I couldn't afford it because I fall into the high risk group which is more expensive. I'm glad that insurance companies can no longer deny anyone that's high risk but it doesn't mean much when you can't afford insurance anyway.

I have a private major medical policy, with a high deductible. Since I have been fortunate enough to stay healthy, all my prescriptions, regular check-ups and tests are paid out of my pocket.

It's sort of like not having insurance.

As for those who are worried my premiums may go up, they need to grow up. My premiums have gone up every year for the past 8 years, long before anyone ever heard of Obamacare.

I do appreciate the concern, but I don't really think anyone cares what I pay for insurance.

I have medical insurance through my employer, it is about as good as a chainsaw shoved up my ass though. The morons that run my company decided to change firms for our insurance and now it costs a lot more and covers a lot less. Oh how I miss Blue Cross & Blue Shield. :(

Live most of the time in Australia, and the rest in New Zealand. Both countries have government run schemes,so I see no need to double up on what my taxes pay for.

However, elective, non-urgent surgeries can mean a wait of a loooong time if you don't pay a premium for private care.

I had to vote 'obligatory other'.

I live in the UK so have the National Health Service.

I also have private health insurance which covers 'cold conditions' such as physiotherapy and elective surgery, e.g. hip replacements. I have dental insurance. For some conditions I pay direct to the health supplier.

In the UK we are not forced to use the National Health Service. It is always there, but anyone who can afford it can buy additional Health Insurance to supplement or replace NHS treatment for example by providing quicker access to a specialist than the NHS could do. In an emergency, the NHS is the best provider of urgent care.

I have private annual health insurance for travelling outside the UK plus the reciprocal arrangements between the NHS and other European medical care systems.

Summary: Government provided, plus three different health insurance systems, plus pay it myself. European cover by Government and insurance.

Gee oggbashan, got enough insurance there, can't be too uninsured can ya.

I had to put other.

I have TriCare Prime through military retirement. Not free mind you, but very affordable.

I recall you saying you paid less than $50 a month for health insurance. The Vettebigot opined last summer that retirees would soon be sucking dick for table scraps when President Obama jacked your monthly rates through the roof. Enjoyin' your newfound homosexuality yet? ;)

I heard he'd do that even without the table scrap bonus.
