something that YummyMummy said got me to thinking about this, and here we are. I thought it might be an interesting thread at least for the music freaks here (you know who you are).

what was your first real concert?

I say "real" because.... well, I remember back when I was a kid we had a little mall in the center of town and I saw gary lewis and the playboys there. this was late 70's, long after anybody but the old fogies knew who he was. if you can see someone playing at a mall in a shithole city like middletown, I'm not going to call that a real concert.

so, what was your first real concert? you can just say who/when, or you can go into as much detail as you want.

I was about 16 when my uncle took me and my bro to our first concert, van halen at dayton's hara arena. there was a band called the fools opening for them... I can't remember any of their songs, but they had a video that got played on mtv at least a few times.

it was really pretty crappy.... the sound sucked, and even tho I like DLR era VH a lot more than van hagar, dave just isn't that good of a singer live. he was better when I saw his solo show a few years later, so maybe he was just too coked up when I saw him with VH.

anyway...

the vocals and the sound sucked, but still... my god.... the power of seeing a band you're really into, hearing the music played at such sheer volume.... what a rush! I was hooked.

I don't get to see many shows anymore, but when the stars align right... there's not many things more exciting than seeing a kick-ass band tear it up live.

My first concert; called a "Big Show" way back then. It was held at the Kiel Auditorium. I think it was Easter Sunday........but I do remember that it was a holiday season.

There were several big name stars, but I went to see The Temptations. Okay, by now you've figured out that this was in the early 60's. What was amazing back then is that you got a big bang for your money because you always saw several big names and a few lesser known stars, sometimes locals.

1983 David Bowie Serious Moonlight Tour, Milton Keynes Bowl. Got drunk, stoned and one of those little inflatable moons - all at 16 years old. Memories....:)

LOL! Okay I do not want this held against me!

In my defense I was around 12 or 13 and I did not pay for the tickets.

The first concert I went to was Sheena Easton. I believe it was around the time of her song "Strut". I went with my friend at the time. I really don't remember too much about it actually. I do remember that her opening act was a comedian.

:)

saw the last Van Halen Concert w/ David Lee Roth, that was pretty awesome. :nana:

Cal Jam II

Because of my work schedule I got lousy seating, but was back at the second rows of speakers... Festival seating.

I was there to see Ted Nugent, but Santana rocked too...

Snort.... Kids!

With my parents. Completely uncool band. Most embarrassing experience of my life  And oddly, I can't get anyone to go to a concert with me now that I'm a big girl lol

First "real" concert brings back memories. The first one that I went to with out "responsible adults" dogging my every step was A-ha....I stilll like their music.

july 1973...

watkins glen ny.....i was 15..............the dead, allman brothers, the band, and 750,000 other people.......i saw things that weekend that i will never forget....

giggling now just thinking about it....it was Kansas. I loved their song Dust in the Wind. I was in junior high. First time I ever saw anyone smoking pot...I was shocked....hehe

:D

who 79 tour....

it certainly wasnt my first show but, i saw them sept 16th 1979 at madison square garden....it was their first tour since keith moon had died.........without a doubt, one of the best shows ever.........they were on fire.....later that tour in cinncinnati, about 8 or 10 people died as the crowd was unruly trying to get inside early....

mkay... I was 14, and went to see the Bare Naked Ladies in Vancouver at the PNE with my girlfriends befor they where anybody. We spent the whole day at the PNE ( fair with rides and stuff) with the ladies. At the concert, one of the "ladies" dedicated a song to us... ah those where the days..

Green with envy...

I always have been a Skynyrd fan...

Back in the fun days of C.B. radio my "handle" was Freebird because it was my anthem...

Still my song of freedom...

Me thinks it is about time to crank it up and blast myself back to reality!

Garth Brooks at Arco Arena, I was 21 or 22.

The fact that he literally climbed the walls during his performance has set quite a high standard for any act to top. I've only been to one other 'big' concert and that was a year after. It has been a looong time since I've been to a concert.

One of the big things I remember about that one, is a fight broke out a few rows behind me. Some drunk ass spilled his beer on someone's date...fists were flying and the whole group was escourted out of the arena.

Yep. First shows with Kenny Jones.

I rember the Cincinatti thing. I think that was in the fall. And if I remember -- the Chicago show was almost canceled. and wasn't actually in the early spring of 1980.

god that seems like a lifetime ago....

phantom -

indeed...kenny jones, formerly of the faces, i think........i love the who...pete was a madman that tour, jumping around like a jack-rabbit......contrast with entwhistle, who never moved, was a trip....

I've always been a huge fan of Townsends work. Quadrophenia is still a masterpiece to this day.

His book, Horses Neck, was as much a confesisonal autobiography as fiction.

How impish of him, and expected, that he got caught looking a "eary teen" models.

Whatever became of that charge?

"Freebird" was always one of my favorites. I will always remember that concert with such awesome memories. The fact that I saw the original band makes it just that much sweeter!

*takes au_man's hand...*

Let's dance to it!!! :D
