Well, I'm more or less asking as a writer. What do readers most like to read about? What part do they skip to? Do they love long teasing scenes, or do they want to get right to the climax? Is it more fun for a guy to read about how the girl is feeling when his cock is in her--or more fun for him to read about what the guy character is feeling during intercourse?

Just curious.

As a reader, and I've said this before, it's emotions that catch me. So much 'erotica' doesn't have much. Conversely I think so many writers get caught up in the emotions of what they're writing they lose the cool detachment needed to write the story well. The words they put down contain so much emotion for them they don't stop to consider if those words are conveying the same emotions to the reader.

I think writers in BDSM and Non-consent/Reluctance are most often guilty of this.

Just my opinion.

I just love the buildup, if it's a well-written one. If you can feel the characters' excitement about each other, before they actually have any kind of sexual contact. It's the part that can just suck me right into a story.

What if your favorite Lit writer had time to only write one scene. It'll contain all the emotions, sounds, smells, etc. that you love and need in erotica.

But it can only be ONE of the above. They haven't time to write up the whole dance from flirting to climax.

Which would you want?

Which would most likely give you that shiver--reading about a tongue caressing that velvet cockhead, the veins and ridges? Or reading about a tongue parting those hot, wet folds? Or, contrarywise, feeling that tongue teasing you? Would you want to get right to penetration instead? Not to be nit-picky, but my major problem with erotic fiction is that is focuses so strongly with fantasy that I can't accept it as believable. I'd almost rather read the scene where things aren't as good in the buildup, not for fantasy purposes, but simply because, to me, it makes better fiction.

Yeah, I thought about it. But "Foreplay" is too general a word. Most folk would include flirting, teasing, touching AND oral sex in that.

The interesting thing to me is that, so far, what *I* consider foreplay--nibbling, sucking, caressing all that other first-base stuff, is losing out...to flirting! I would have never guessed that reading about, say, a couple flirting at opposite sides of the room, would be seen as more erotic than a couple "making out"--kissing, fondling or sucking on nipples, neck and ears.

It's the scenario that turns me on, not the sex itself. Two people fucking doesn't hold my interest. Two people fucking in public, or two people who happen to be brother and sister, mother and son, or father and daughter will keep me reading, as will people fucking under unusual or even amusing circumstances or two young people experiencing sex for the first time.

I don't really care what parts are involved if the story is well written and the scenario leading up to the sex is appealing. The mere touching of a nipple in the right setting can be much more erotic than a room full of people fucking their brains out.

Sometimes I actually skim over the sex in a story if it becomes too descriptive and tedious. I prefer reading (and writing) about what is going on in the heads of the people involved instead of getting bogged down in the mechanical aspects of their actions.
