Besides a sweet fella, real close to my heart, who lives in Detroit, I love anything by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles.

My 2 favorites are : Tracks of My Tears and Just to See Her.

Any one else love Motown music?

Curtis

"What's Goin' On?" by Curtis Mayfield:

"Father, father, we don't need to escalate
War is not the answer-- only love can conquer hate
Talk to me, and you can see, what's goin' on"
:D

My favorites are "Nowhere to Run" and "Heatwave" by Martha and the Vandellas

Yesssss..... I like that one too, RED. Nice to see you, by the way, doll. ~smile~

You guys are great

like a walk down memory lane..... I love the Temptations myself, too.

Aretha

"Respect" by Aretha Franklin. The raw energy in her voice was incredible. Tina Turner was like that too when she was young.

Please help me, Aretha has another that I absolutely love. But I can't remember the name of it. It's a pretty love song.

My favorite would be either "What's Going On?" or "Let's Get it On", both of which were penned by Marvin Gaye.

Kids these days, I tell ya.

;)

Cruisin' ~ Smokey!

Never Can Say Goodbye ~ Gloria Gaynor

You've Really Got A Hold On Me ~ The Supremes or The Miracles, I like both versions (even the Beatles)

There are a ton more! I love Motown. I've just got this other song in my head right now.

oh god I just loooooooove Motown! Mr Keen and opted for almost exclusively Motown for our wedding - no DJ, we just got loads of Motown (along with some Stax and Sun) compilations on CD and just played them the whole cruise (one of them dinner cruise thangs in NY harbor). It was FANTASTIC.

The only thing that rivals Berry Gordy's achievements in (American) popular music in that time is Phil Spector and his 'wall of sound'.

Overall I'd have to say just about anything by the Temptations totally rocks my world. "My Girl" is just about as perfect a pop song as they come, and "Ball of Confusion" is as relevant today as ever. Oh god and then there's "Ain't Too Proud to Beg", "Papa Was a Rolling Stone"... Well the list just goes on and on, really...

Pretty much anything by the Temptations or Smokey Robinson.

Lately I've wandered around with with the song "Ain't too proud to Beg" in my head. lol

I know you wanna leave me,
but I refuse to let you go.
If I need to beg, plead for your sympathy,
I don't mind, cuz you mean that much to me,
...ain't too proud to beg.... baby, please don't leave me,
don't you go......."

I am making a list

anything mentioned that I don't already have, I am going out and buy. Thank you all for your posts here.

And don't you all think "Heard it Through the Grapevine" (Marvin Gaye) is very appropriate for a lit theme song? LOL
