Hey folks,

I got home kind of tired last night, tried doing some writing and it was like pulling teeth.

I gave up and took a little nap. About 45 minutes in total.

After my cat woke me up (The fuzzy little bastard...) I staggered over to the computer, checked some email and then pounded out a 14 page 7000 word chapter.

I'm a little blown away by that. My characters feel like they are writing themselves sometimes and I'm just transcribing them.

Has anyone here had something like this occur? What's your best day writing? I'm pretty certain that my last chapter isn't that large by some standards...

It happens. Sometimes it happens a lot. Other times it doesn't come along and I'm driven nuts.

I've cranked out 10k words on a Sunday and hardly scrapped a bit of it when I went through with revisions. I've had a few days where I hit 7k. Sometimes I don't at all.

Lately it's been a little slow, but I've had a lot of life changes. Two weeks ago I was back in the swing of writing regularly. Last Tuesday I got a call to say that my closest work colleague & mentor died of cancer, and then the day after that I got called for a job interview (which I suspect was just "we decided on someone else but we're obligated to do interviews" fluff). Hardly written a sentence since then, but it's coming back. At the moment I'm just plagued with doubt as to whether or not the smutty scene I want to start up is believable... the story involves a dragon and pagan gods that actually answer their worshippers' prayers, and yet here I am wondering whether or not these two characters having normal, human sex is somehow straining credibility...

Anyway. It comes and goes. Make allowances for things happening in your life and savor the good days. Keep writing.

Going on about 2 years ago, I started writing a Halloween one shot involving my SWB Characters.

I started at 6 and finished at 3:30am.

33,000 words. Haven't matched that since.

I cranked out a 4K chapter for "Time's Changes" and sent it to my Beta-reader today. My best day yet - a chapter in just one day!

Ok, that is fucking amazing. You must have been exhausted when you finished that!

It took me almost ten days to hit thirty thousand words. You just boggled my mind dude!

On Memorial Day I managed to pen out a little over thirty pages for a novel I'm slowly working on. I started early after a walk and was possessed by the characters and that specific chapter, that got split into two. I think wine got opened by 11am, sat in a fluffy robe all day with the phone off and probably stunk, but it was pretty great until the next morning which was zombie-esque.

Given how pathetic my good days are compared to those mentioned here, I won't give a word or page count out of fear of causing accidental drink snarfage all over your respective keyboards. However:

Last Tuesday I got a call to say that my closest work colleague & mentor died of cancer . . . .

:rose:

Cancer is an awful thing. I'm so sorry.

I once wrote a 20k word story while drunk (read: wasted) after a birthday party, one of my first submissions. I didn't even remember that I wrote it until I went to write another story and saw it sitting in the folder.

So instead of writing another story, I just edited my drunk typing.

The story is @ 4.6ish with like 100 votes :)

I've written more than a few times wasted. The really odd thing is the next day when I look at it some of the wording is a little off and there's some grammar issues,

But my spelling? Is flawless. I make more spelling mistakes(or simple typos) when I'm sober.

Weird.

And yes, I have no control over my anti-scouries alt drunk or sober.

I dunno. Writing humor is effortless for me, as is inventing pithy-snarky quotes. Writing stories is hard work, tho I usually know when the writing is inspired or lame.

I'm reading a book of essays/lectures by John O'Hara, to shed some light on what makes great short stories better than my stuff.

And yes, I have no control over my anti-scouries alt drunk or sober.

Priceless :D

Mine just seems to be full of glimmers of perfection for a page or two, then back to slightly fuddled, then back to perfection, and on and on.

I remember laughing quite a lot at my typos, things like manhood became manfood or giggle became gaggle, stuff like that.

I'm the same way, I tend to make way fewer mistakes when I'm writing wasted then when I am sober.

Since I've begun writing for Lit my best was a few days ago. I woke up early and with a huge head of steam. I took the beginnings of a story and pretty much finished it in a couple of hours.

I used to regularly write for 6-8 hours at a stretch back when I had a weekly column and monthly previews. (I don't want to go into details about what I used to write about as it would incriminate my civilian identity. Also, it was pretty odd) My best day then I got off both my monthly show preview and column in one sitting. Probably about 5000 words on the preview and 1500 on the column. Nothing compared to what some of you can pull off.
