<http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/1968616.stm>

Since then I have made several inquiries to your embassy to locate any
of my clients extended relatives but this has proved unsuccessful.
After these several unsuccessful attempts, I decided to track his similar
name over the Internet, to locate any member of his family hence this
mail to you. I have contacted you to assist in repatriating the money
left behind by Mr.Mark before they get confiscated ordeclared
unserviceable by my bank. Since we have been unsuccessful in locating the relatives for over 3 years now. I seek your consent to present you as the next of kin to the deceased since you have similar name with him so that the
proceeds of this account valued at 10.5million US Dollars can be paid to
you and then you and me can share the money. 60% to me and 30% for
you, while 10% should be for expenses or taxes your
Government may require. All I require is your honest cooperation to
enable us seeing this deal through.I guarantee that this will be executed
under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of
the law. As soon as I hear from you I will detail you on the process of
the transaction.

Best regards,
Babatunde Adedayo Douglas.

Okay, it's not like my last name is all that damn unusual. There must be a ton of us here, and even more in England, since Dr. Jeckyl is a relative.

Does anyone actually fall for this anymore?

One law still holds cloud warrior. Someone is falling for it or those sending the emails wouldn't be doing it.

Idiots abound, but entrepanuers are bound by a simple dictum, you have to be turning a profit.

Our county has a Trading Standards Department. Last time I heard they were getting 100s of complaints a month about these scams - from people who had sent money and/or bank details. In the UK there must be 1000s of mugs a year.

it defies my imagination that anyone could fall for this, but people do.

"Hey, Brandine! We're gunna get rich!" :)

Seriously... the nerve! I'd be insulted if someone wrote me such a letter.

"How DARE you imply that I'd go along with fraud, you asswipe????" :catroar:

The rules for a con are easy.

The marks must have money and they must be greedy. Smart doesn't enter into it. Once the greed gets going most people's IQs fall to the room temperature level.

Don't ask how I know this. ;)

Got this e-mail once, I think, but I can't be sure, since I didn't read more than the first three lines. Sounds familiar.

*shrug*

I don't understand why people even read e-mails that aren't from people or organisations they know.

The real sadness about a lot of these Nigerian scams is that the marks are quite elderly and don't have a lot of money.

so, does anyone have a credit card number i can use just to check this out?
*grin*
