TV watchdog warns Scots of football jokes
Scots have been warned to expect English jokes about their non-appearance in the World Cup.
The Independent Television Commission says it is natural to make such comments given the rivalry between the two countries.
The TV watchdog made the comment after receiving a complaint about alleged anti-Scottish remarks on ITV during the Champions League final in Glasgow.
Football commentator Clive Tyldesley mistook Liverpudlian serial streaker Mark Roberts for a Scotsman as he was wearing a ginger wig and See You Jimmy hat.
He apologised for the mistake and the ITC considered that appropriate but said it was always wrong to jump to conclusions.
It wrote to one complaining Scot: "We don't doubt similar views are going to be aired over the coming weeks during the World Cup Finals."
It added that because of the 'usually friendly rivalry between the two footballing countries' comments like this are natural.
The controversy has prompted Scotland's Daily Record to offer readers ear plugs, or "a pair of World Cup defenders" to protect Scots from English TV pundits.
The free offer promises to block all talk of: "Three Lions, Gazza's tears, Banksie's save, Moore's tackle, Beckham's freekick, 5-1 against Germany and Sir Alf Ramsay and 1966."

At least Jimmy Hill has been pensioned off - he was the least liked person in Scotland for a while after he called David Nareys wonder goal in the 82 world cup agaisnt Brazil a toe poke -

The complaint was not about the streaker but about the commentator saying that he was a 'native' . He was from Liverpool.
The other 'native', according to the commentator, who invaded the pitch came from Madrid!

Firstly " Scotties " are a breed of dog !! I think that some of the people from the east end of Glasgow ( bluespoke ) would not really fall into the category of a quaint Scotty
I do know if we are funny or not:
