Besides those damn hooligans of course, is when there is a sweet track in a movie preview, but for some reason it doesn't make the cut for the soundtrack. The preveiws for Fast and Furious have a track I love in them, but just listened to clips of the 7 songs on the soundtrack through Amazon, and none sound even close. If it had words I could employ my friend's help as she did with that porn clip that had a great song in the background, but alas, just music in this one! Now I have to go watch the movie to see if I can figure out what song it is!

I would think if you found the website for the movie, perhaps someone there would know the name of the song you're looking for. Or maybe BMI or ASCAP would have it listed somewhere.

One of my songs made it into a movie, or so the publisher thought. I ordered the movie on DVD, watched it, and my song wasn't there, although it was in the credits at the end. I wonder if that's why I never got paid?

No kidding, or worse yet, when a movie has a massively awesome score and you pick up the soundtrack and it's songs that are "inspired by" the movie, but doesn't actually contain the songs FROM the movie.

Case in point the Adam Sandler remake of The Longest Yard. It had some fantastic 80s rock in it, but the soundtrack was all rap music from the people staring in the movie.

Seriously? What the hell was that all about?

Previews often have music from other, past movies because the movie itself may not be finished when they make the preview and the real music that they're laying down for it may not be ready to go.

Which is to say, the music you're hearing in the preview may not even be in the movie. I'd recommend you post the website for this preview and it's music, then ask people here like S-Des and other music fans if they recognize it. It might be from another movie and available on another soundtrack.

Agreed! Very frustrating. Of course, that's an issue of the rights. They may have been able to pay cheap for music to appear in the movie, but may not have been able to get--or may have had to pay a lot more--if they wanted it on the soundtrack.

The "Longest Yard" example you present is one of the worst. That's where they try to have their cake and eat it, too. The director gets great music for the movie, cheap (as he's only using the music for the movie not the soundtrack), as well as a soundtrack that might sell to those who don't see the movie. This is also cheap because the actors want people to see them in the movie and so promote it with a song on the soundtrack and don't charge much for that.

Said actors also feel it's win-win as money from the soundtrack and movie goes to them. Meanwhile, only money from the movie goes to the artists with music in the movie.

The movie makers *think* this is win-win, but usually it's not.

My friend the musical super sleuth found it for me! Turns out it was 'We Are Rockstars' by the band Does it Offend You, Yeah?

Interesting album. I mean what else can you say about track titles that include 'Attack of the 60 Ft Lesbian Octopus'. Seriously

<---happy camper, and the test earlier today seemed OK, so pretty sure it will be an A. :D
