where a young couple are looking, panic struck, at a pile of bills. A good friend appears and says "You can always get a loan from xxx. Bill and I did. We paid off all our debts and had enough left over for a vacation in the Caribbean"
Well, do you feel smug and think 'stupid bastards getting into that spot in the first place'
Or do you think 'you crazy cunts. you can't pay off your present debts without help and now you're going to build up more by taking an expensive vacation'
Or do you feel like shouting 'don't do it. you're only selling your soul to the finance houses. you'll be in debt to them for the rest of your lives!'
I feel like shouting at them.
I reckon these finance houses can be likened to the loan sharks of past years. Once you're in, you're in for life. They use threats of legal action to force you to keep up the repayments, even during times of great family crisis. And if you do manage to discipline yourself and reduce your debt, they're there like parasites, smiling and smooth, to persuade you to take out another loan to get yourself a new automobile, or whatever. 'After all you deserve it after depriving yourself for so long'.
If any industry needs regulating. They do.
