Yes, folks, it another Tale of the Pizza Stud.

I decided to help out at the store tonight for a couple or three hours since they were really short for drivers. It turned out to be not the best idea I've had in a while.

I drove around in 100 deegree temps with humidity that drove the relative temp up to 110. My car's air conditioning works about as well as a Congressional Budget Plan (take that, you Political Threadsters!!), which is to say that it draws off far more of the enging's power than it gives back in cool air....

I ended up with six deliveries in the three hours I worked - not bad for a relatively slow July 4th evening (it was busier during the day).

Here's what sucks. Four of those six deliveries stiffed me. Zero tip. Not change, not a dollar. Nothing. nada. Zilch.

Even the folks who ordered $55 worth of food and made me stand there for ten minutes with six large pizzas in my hands, getting scalded from the heat bags and visibly sweating rivers. That lady made me hold out my hand and balance the pizzas in the other while she counted out her $55 in cash.

Luckily, the other drivers are doing well, so I know that not everyone's a cheap cocksucking fucktard - just the folks I had tonight.

That's all. :(

I can empathize. Last year at this time I was delivering Chinese food. :(

Sounds like the town I us to deliver in order $50 worth of pizza and stiff the driver.

Id give you 20% and a big ol smooch!

OooooOOOOoooOOOOOo. :)

I'd accept that with much gusto!

But honestly, on the $55 order, I wouldn't have expected a 20 percent tip. That's kind of unreasonable of me. Ten percent wouldn't have been out of the ordinary, though. I wouldn't have frowned had they just given me $60.

I would have frowned even less had they gotten the pizzas right away instead of having me stand there. Or actually said a word to me while I was there, at least to acknowlege my "Hi. How're y'all doing tonight?".

I worked a party last weekend, and out of 67 people. We got 23$ in tips to divide between the 2 of us. I was pissed. They decided to pay per family, which is ok, but on a bigger food bill we add our gratuity in it. .

Yeah, I know how that is.

After a rehearsal last week, a dozen of us went out to dinner afterwards. The waitress was amazing and when the bill came she was very careful to explain that there was a %15 gratuity there and why it was automatically added. She was almost apologetic, but she said she wanted us to know it was there and why. We told her it was no problem - she'd be getting more anyhow.

Once we tallied everything up, she ended up with like 40- percent or something close. But she earned every single penny. She was flawless! :)

Hey, in New Zealand we tip nothing at all, as a rule of our culture.

Your culture'd be getting some awfully cold, beaten-up pizzas. ;)

Of course I tip. I would have taken care of you big Jim.

But I think it is high time we end this tipping crap. Pay the people a decent wage. Knock my bill up a dollar or two if you have to. I hate tipping.

When I ran security at the hospital I worked at a long time ago. I had the only key to the morgue on weekends. When the funeral homes came to pick up bodies I had to meet them down in the basement. Most often there would only be one dude. So I would help move the body from our gurney to theirs. The fuckers would tip me! Blew my mind the first time, he passed me like three bucks, I refused to take it, I was like man, I am just doing you a favor. He wouldn't hear of it. Go buy coffee or something.

I was blown away, didn't know what to do.

Anyhow, just got back from a trip up north. We drove, so we ate along the road. Tipping is outdated. I really hate it when your paying with plastic, and they have that little line they watch you fill in for tipping. I always feel like writing something stupid, like look both ways before crossing streets...

Sorry you got stiffed Jim.

I agree with schoolteacher on this one - increase my bill if you have to- the whole tipping thing has the sniff of servitude and is outdated .

Why should a person doing their job have to depend on the whim of the person he is waiting/driving/delivering to make a decent living. It dates back to the whole master servant thing and shouldnt be tolerated in todays society.

It is just an excuse for employers to pay their staff less. It is not as common over here but still exsists. I hate that thing when even cabbies who charge enough anyway and take you a couple of miles , then expect a tip ,

I remember being in New york and the driver even said at the end that will be 20 bucks plus my tip - I gave him a good horse at the 3.30 at Haydock park - Ok he wasnt best pleased but what the fuck had he done - his job. It is not my problem that the cab companies dont pay enough.

There is a case if you have had a great meal and had excellent service all night - you will leave something extra - but to expect to give 20% every time you go to a bar / snack bar - shit I would be skint , especialy with my drinking problem :D

Well I have something to admit... My parents are lousy tippers. Sure they leave like a buck on the table but thats never really enough because usually the service is immaculate. So on to my admission... Depending on the service and total price of the meal I usually let the parents walk away to pay or leave and leave an extra 5-10 bucks on the table without them knowing.

Not true. As a rule I always tip unless the service sucks big time. The size of the tip depends on the quality of the service. At a restaurant I'll usually tip a 20 for good service or 30 for excellent service. It is very rare that I don't tip at all. Jim you would have got at least a fiver from this Kiwi boy.

I would have tipped you and given you a big smile. :)
Hope tomorow is way better for you.
Don't let them bastards get you down.

Yup - I'm with you Kiwiwolf...Okay - I don't always tip in a restaurant - but I do for delivery...every time!

Jimmy - if you'd come to my door with food - you'd have gotten a tip - and a free bite! (And I'm not talking about the pizza either!) :p

You're very right, JL. :)

Yours are very much the same. :D

Well, folks, tonight's another night. Things should be better.

I personally wish they'd tack on 15 percent to every delivery bill I took out the door. I'd do really well!

IN comparison, last night my two big-dollar items were that $55 order and a $47 order. If you just tacked on 15 percent, my tip, just out of those two orders would have come to 15.30. That was more than I made all night, total, so yeah, I wold have been happy! :D

I tip 99.9% of the time. The only times I don't is when going out to eat is spur of the moment and ALL we have money for is the food. BUT we always go to the same place, they know us there and know we really do tip well any other time. I have been known to tip $5 for a coffee and bagle when the service was great. I try to tip in relation to the service I get. I ALWAYS tip the delivery drivers too.

When I get crappy service or a server who is rude or just plain does not care what kind of job they do, I do not tip, or I leave an insulting tip with a note ... " If the quality of service had been higher, your tip would have been bigger " left with anywhere from a measly nickle to 50 cents. I don't feel bad about it because I used to work as a delivery driver and a waitress and I always made good tips for my service.
