You Cannot Beat Dylan...

That iz Funny...But Bob Dylan is so much more than just his lyrics. He is an icon of personal freedom. He is the Fire that lit John Lennon's ass up to take the Beatles and the world to a new place...When Zimmerman became a christian, I puked and detested it! I heard about it thru the church grapevine long before the public did (I wuz a kid forced to go to sundayschool)...But I was soon partying and listening to things with an "open" mind, and his Christian stuff is incredible. He actually challenges the Church to wake up.

Lenny Bruce is Dead...

Over the years I've lost interest in Dylan as a musician. When I was younger I thought he was great. I still enjoy some of his earlier work, musically. I have never lost admiration for him as a weaver of words.

This is sort of like an earlier thread that MP posted - what's more important to you, music or lyrics? I think for those people who answer lyrics Dylan can't be beat. For those who answer music its another story...

Traveling Wilbouries...

Why wuz Jeff Lynn a part of this? Just doesn't seem like a good fit to me...I love ELO and have his solo Armchair Theatre which has Dylan and Petty on it, but don't see him as one of those Travelers...

I like what his boy, Jakob, is putting out with the Wallflowers and hear in it echoes of Bob's earlier stuff.

Dylan rap?

For the longest time I've been waiting for some rapper to do some of Dylan's songs. This is not as crazy as it frist sounds. Do a little rap thing with It's alright mom, and you'll see how well it works. Alot of Bob's stuff could be done as rap with no changes or problems :-}

I really like Dylan's 60's stuff, the 70's album Blood on the Tracks, and Time Out of Mind from 1997. I have been writing songs myself since I was 15, and Dylan is probably my biggest inspiration. He's written so many good songs and has been so prolific that i personally think that there has never been or never will be a more important figure in rock or popular music. I've seen him twice in concert in the past year and he's still got it.

Did anybody see his performance on the Oscars? He kind of looked like Vincnet Price did in his later years. lol

There is NO ONE who could replace Bob Dylan, NO ONE. Ain't a person in the world that could intelligently argue otherwise.
But there are other's who have reached his level as far as artistry goes.

My Life
There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed.
Some forever not for better,
Some are gone and some remain.

All those places have their moments,
With lovers and friends I still can recall,
Some are dead and some are living,
In my life I loved them all.

But of all these friends and lovers
there is no one compares with you.
And these memories lose thier meaning
When I think of love as something new.

Though I know I'll never ever lose affection
for people and things that went before.
I know I'll often stop and think about them,
But in my life I love you more.
