Oh, my gosh! I'm so happy! Sob! Here, have one of my roses This is so amazing! (wiping at bleeding mascara). Waves and kisses to my mom and my dad and all my friends at school! I never dreamed...SOB!

Um...what's a platform and why do I have to have it? Didn't I win because of how good I looked in a bathing suit and how well I twirled my baton?

That's funny.

However, and god help me I never ever in my whole life thought I would come to the defense of beauty pageants, they really aren't just about how good you look in a bathing suit. Two of ex's cousins are HUGE into pageants, competing as far as the Miss Texas competition, and I've heard enough of their stories that I know a little bit about them. Yes, they're about beauty, but they also offer alot to the girls who compete (willingly) in them. His younger cousin who competed was extremely well-spoken and poised because of her experiences, and she had a big chunk of her college paid for even before she graduated from high school.
So while I personally am not a fan, and I would never compete and I hope to god my daughter doesn't, there really is more to them than just a nice body in a bikini.
