How is a subsidy socialism? In the basest form, any form of taxation for social purposes is socialism whether it be for welfare, social security, unemployment, civic services, and so on.
However, when you realize that true socialism isn't a redistribution of wealth, but is instead the ultimate control of all commerce and trade, you begin to realize that things like government subsidies aren't even close to socialism's evil. Socialism at its core attempts to determine what you may possess through what may be produced.
