Is there anyone out there in literotica land that does yoga? I can go to free lessons where I work. I will be a first timer and would appreciate any advice so I don't look like a complete ignoramus.

Everyone who practices yoga (or anything, for that matter) has to start somewhere. I haven't been to yoga classes yet, but I do know one of the really cool things about this particular form of exercise and relaxation is that it's highly customizable. That is, when people start, they just do what they can, and that's great; with more practice, the body and mind will be able to do much more.

Unless the class is specifically for advanced practitioners (it doesn't sound like that's the case), you should look and be perfectly fine just doing what's comfortable for you as a beginner.

If you're really worried about it, perhaps you could get in touch with the instructor to discuss his/her philosophies with beginners, your anxieties and suggestions on what you should wear and bring (comfortable, breathable clothing and a yoga mat are typically recommended). Chances are, your instructor will have lots of experience with yoga newbies and you'll be welcomed by him/her and your classmates with open arms and no judgments. Just do what you can wherever you are, and enjoy the many benefits!

Coudn't have said it any better than that. A good yoga instructor will only guide you, and let your body learn its own techiques. That's what mine did anyway. I know I felt crazy doing it, not as flexible as I used to be, but she was able to show me ways to achieve the same effect, but just in a different way. A whole lot of fun, both guys and girls in the class I go to, very rewarding.

look

Look mate you are a bit old to be starting this yoga stuff and to be honest, you have had a few cream teas that are starting to show, you know you won't look good in lycra, and you know the class will be full of beautiful people that can suck their own toes......

Fuck, what does that all matter, if you won't to go, go and enjoy, nothing to lose everything to gain, (don't overstretch yourself though!!!)

You won't look like a complete ignoramus! In yoga, you start from where you are because that's all you can do. :)

Your yoga studio should have an array of blocks, straps, blankets, and other props that you can use to help modify certain poses; a good instructor will show you how to use them.

I would also suggest that you watch what you eat in the day or so before the class. If you have gas, some positions will, um, expel it.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I appreciate the input. I can't wait to see how it goes. It's about two weeks before the class starts. I'll let you know what happened.

A couple of ibprophin after is a good idea. You might find a few aches and pains. And don't overdo that is the mistake that many make and then don't go back. Only hold the poses as long or as deep as your body is comfortable with.

I almost just spit water all over my computer when I read the first part - that's hilarious...

Yoga's a hell of a workout (or it can be, depending on what KIND of yoga it is) but I always feel really good about myself and IN myself when I leave a class. It might sound hokey, but it really does clear your head and help you focus.

I got a giggle from that too, and I agree with you about yoga. I do yoga myself, home practice and some at work if I can find the spare time. I love it, and always feel good after a practice.

You will be fine, just relax and remember it is not about showing off for the person on the mat to the left, it's about you. Find your balance and learn how your body wants to move.
Have fun!!

yoga is a lot of fun, feels good, and is helpful for body and mind. It can be very difficult no matter if you're a couch potato or pro athlete so go slow, be patient, try not to hurt yourself.
A nice and good teacher is key: if the teacher is too fast or not friendly and doesn't take time to explain properly then you may get the wrong impression and think yoga sucks so try at least a few different teachers before making up your mind about yoga.

I'm a straight guy and I also have to admit that I love being one of the few guys in any class I take, ratio is like ten times more women than men. It's very motivating to see fit, strong, sexy, sweaty women of all shapes and sizes everywhere I look, many times in provocative positions; I'm very surprised more creepy guys like me aren't going to yoga classes.

I would highly recommend it for any level. There are lots of benefits in all areas of your life I.e., spiritual, physical, etc. Helps to clear your head after a stressful day, and of course you become much more flexible to reach all those crazy sexual positions. :)
