I've been trying to think of a way to make the vetting process simpler (and less labor intensive) for me.

What do y'all think of posting a poll thread for each story or poem you want considered for inclusion?

The author/poet would create the poll, then PM me the link to the poll thread once enough favorable votes were received. It would then be the responsibility of the author/poet to pimp their own work (siggies, bumps, etc.)

The main issue I see is (a) if the poll is anonymous, we could be innundated with non-AHers and alts voting; (b) if the poll is open, it could chill voting.

One option (just brainstorming, here) would be to require more votes/endorsements for anonymous polls (like 20 instead of 10). Maybe.

Discuss ...

I agree that if there's a poll, there needs to be a higher number required. Because, to be honest, a poll would get responses from people who hadn't even read the story, I think.

If it's a matter of needing help cuz it's time consuming, I may be able to help out a little.

ditto what SJ said. if you need a hand, please ask. i know you dont like to ask but hell, woman, you must learn.

Exactly.

Sounds like a plan to me. Definitely then up to the author to prevent their thread from slipping off the page.

I just have to learn how to set up a poll.

So ... author's choice whether to create an open or anonymous poll? If the author chooses "open" ... 10 votes ... if "anonymous" ... 20? Something like that?

'Cause, like, those pesky alts might vote. ;)

Yeah that's probably fine. One problem would be page one being full of polls for people's stories, tho.

Maybe a sub-forum for these polls could be created? That way you don't have to worry about flooding up an existing forum with voter polls, and authors don't have to keep bumping their threads every five minutes just to keep their story on top.

The anthology having a sub-forum is actually a great idea, but I don't know if it's feasible. I'm not sure how it would work to get Laurel to create one.

Well, you can't know for sure unless you ask :)
From what I can tell, Laurel is a very nice and understanding admin, and discussing the issue with her would probably help a lot, if anything. Good luck, you guys!

...I'm with Vella and SJ...ask for help when ya need it. This has grown beyond our original intentions already and you have more on your plate then ever, and you were never exactly lazy... :D

I personally would rather have some people helping then put it out there for polls. Quality control, keeping it fair, etc. I don't want to sound arrogant (for a change) but the internal focus has been what has made this happen. Dilute it too much and it will grind to a halt.

I offered you help in PM the other day and V~ and SJ just offered too...let's keep the tight focus and control rather then let it die...

I've worked hard getting the two or three vets that actually count. Now if I have to start over with a poll...

I'd be glad to help out. I'm just not sure how.

You wouldn't have to start over ... regardless of what's decided. :rose:

I'm with Bel, Vella, SJ and everyone else. I think the system in place works just fine as is. The only issue is that we need more bodies operating it rather than just you on your lonesome.

If we do go to polls, then my urge would be towards open.

Okay -- so tell me how it would work? The process requires (a) accepting new submissions; (b) updating the various tables to reflect new submissions; (c) accepting endorsements; and (d) updating the various tables when stories/poems are vetted.

:rose:

NOTE: I just created a new Lit account "Coming Together" for which the password can be shared amongst worker bees.

Well if everyone is required to pm the coming together account for submitting and vetting, various of us could pick a day or a week or whatever to be the coming together acct user, and do all the duties for the given time. Not sure if that would work cuz I don't know everything that would need to be done. The lit acct was a good start tho, Imp.

Great idea, SJ. Everyone could have a week, or everyone could have one specific day, even, that they are responsible for the given duties. If someone can't do it on that day/week, they would be responsible for finding someone to cover, mebbe? Or, Imp could assign specific stories that are submitted to be vetted to volunteers who would harass the author and pimp the story, as needed.

MWAH!

Worker bees (thus far): cloudy, Belegon, rgraham666, vella_ms, sophia jane, TheEarl

Now ... to hammer out the logistics ...

(First, I'm going to copy all those tables into posts by Coming Together so that those accessing this account can edit them.)

Lemme know what day of the week or what ever you want me to keep track, Imp.

I'll get right to it.

Awww, shite. I just volunteered, didn't I? Me and my big mouth.

I'll help. Just point me in the right direction and I'll do what I can.

Okay, that's quite enough work for one evening.

We need to brainstorm a way to keep track of endorsements that all the "worker bees" can see/update so that we're all working from the same data set.

Right now, I have them in an Excel spreadsheet ... but that's obviously not workable.

Suggestions?

You need a small workgroup web or something. I might be able to set one up, tomorrow possibly.

I have some good, versatile systems that might be right. What exactly, function-wise, would you need? A document pile? Workflow? Schedule? Online spreadsheet?

Well, we have the domain (eroticanthology.com) and the ability to set up password-protected folders in it ...

A dynamic spreadsheet-like tool would be preferable
