Batten down the hatches, AHers in the Midwest and Northeast! Looks like you're in for some rough weather. From here:
Severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain, hail and possibly a derecho windstorm are expected to sweep out of the U.S. Midwest today and into New York City and the Northeast, forecasters said.

“The risk for widespread damaging winds will increase from midday to mid-afternoon from Indiana and Ohio across Pennsylvania, southeast New York, into western Massachusetts and Connecticut,” the U.S. Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, said in a severe weather outlook.
Keep in touch with us and let us know you're still afloat! (And what the heck is a derecho windstorm anyway?)

Ground level shear winds.

They can be well above hurricane force.

The weekend before July 4th, a derecho caused a lot of trouble and damage in South Jersey, the Washington DC area, and parts of the Midwest, I think. My parents, in Jersey, lost power for almost a week. Not looking forward to another.

A derecho windstorm follows a visit to Taco Bell.

Derecho Bellgrande!

The MidWest could use all the rain it can get though straightline wind won't do the corn any good at all.

Yah! It's coming right my way, too.

The day has been sort of pleasant up until now. The clouds cleared from this morning's sprinkle and now the temperature has gone up. It's 87 right now, but there isn't a breeze like there was all day. I can see the clouds rolling in over the river. I'm still hoping it won't be much more than a typical summer suppertime thunderstorm. I'll keep ya posted, but if I lose everything, I can't, if ya know what I mean.;)

I was outside practicing some two-man kung fu weapon form with a buddy of mine when the winds hit. There was a lot of lightning, and a bit of rain, and while it knocked some trees down, it wasn't all that bad.

I hope you continued fighting with all the wind, lightning and rain about you. You have to practice in such conditions so that you're ready for that ultimate one-on-one battle with your arch villain on the rooftops of the nearestl city.

Class ended before the rain picked up, so no.

Much wind-up, little baseball. Bark far worse than cliché.

I was wrong. The storm was far worse than I thought, but missed where I was. Barely two-thirds of an inch of rain, and highest wind gust 34 mph, near me.
