CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The dark, filthy water that inundated the entire downtown of Iowa's second-largest city was receding Saturday after forcing 24,000 people to flee, but those who remained were being urged to take draconian measures to avoid overwhelming the city's only remaining drinking water source.
Are our Iowans accounted for and okay? Anyone near there hearing from them?

Rest of the story here.

They keep showing such horrible images on the news.

The cameras linger lovingly on the devastation and the weeping family members.

Please let this end for everyone soon.

I saw a shot from a helicopter that was worse than anthing from ground level. The whole midde of Cedar Rapids is under water, about a half mile each way from the river!

It sucks big time. My stomach turns when I think of how many of my students' families live in poverty and have now lost their homes on top of that. The flood hit some of the poorest parts of the city. One of my friends hadn't slept in 72 hours except for one short nap because he'd been busy pumping water out of the basement, where it was continuously seeping in through cracks. My husband and brother-in-law went to help him while I dried towels for them. Without them working tirelessly, the damage would have been much worse. Some of the neighbors from that area had their basements completely flooded.

It's calmed down, but we had hail, thunderstorm and tornado watches again today. Everyone here seems to be holding their breath every time that happens. Part of me still feels like I'm dreaming this - it's that surreal.
