Yet another question - this one regarding fav authors.

I can look at my submissions and see who has favorited that story. But what happens if someone favorites me as an author? I just discovered that option tonight (ok, I am a bit "slow"!). Does the author I favorite get some kind of notification? If I am favorited as an author is there somewhere I can see that statistic?

Each author has their own recent activity page that shows favorites and when someone leaves a comment.

The only list of favorites is for the top 250 authors. Anyone below that is left guessing.

Unless you make the top 250 list-and that can take awhile, #250is on 839 fav pages, you can't see it.

What you can try to do, but its tedious is keep checking your thirty day activity list and keeping track that way.

There is also a way to search through google, but I forget how and I don't think its 100% accurate. There's a poster here named Reject Reality, if you PM him with the question he will tell you how.

Don't become heartbroken if you are unfavorited. Some people use the favorite/unfavorite tagging to bookmark a story, or an author, that they are currently reading.

I worked up a spreadsheet for tabulating my LIT results, harvested from my VIEW SUBMISSIONS page. I can't harvest fave tallies there and I don't really care, because, unlike views, votes and comments, faves are volatile and can be rescinded. Would I like to have fave counts fairly easily available? Sure, but I won't bother petitioning Laurel and Mano about this.

You can paste something like this into Google's search box:

site:http://www.literotica.com/stories/memberpage Bramblethorn FAVORITES

Most of the hits should be user pages of people who've favorited either you or your stories, though it's not guaranteed to find all of them.

I didn't come up with anything useful when I did that.

It works.

The first time didn't work for me either. Then Google provided an option for more relevant search at the bottom. I clicked that and I did see a few names that have recently faved me or my stories.

I don't see what good knowing "a few" names would do.

Suggest a better method, please?

Not everything is possible just because you want it to be possible. I don't think Lit. (or anyone else) provides that statistic, so I think it's spinning wheels to think the statistic is available. If you push yourself up to the top 250, you'll get that stat.

Right you are.

But I still think of Google engine as a very powerful tool in this search. I think that with the the precise search parameters, it can be used to find a solution to this.

I think -moving forward anyway-the site could provide that feature and the reason I say that is it tells you how many favorites your story has received at the bottom of it so it could do that to keep track of you being faved as an author, I think...

I think the Web site could provide that stat, yes. Perhaps it's among the upgrades coming "soon."

Let us dream. Let us dream of an API for LIT's data schema, and wee little apps to access the data (with proper protections, of course). Let us dream that we may access our personal authorial data. The data is there, but sequestered.

I *do* want to be able to crunch my counts. I don't necessarily care *who* viewed / voted / faved me, but I'd like to have the numbers. I don't care about other author's numbers; ain't got no Need To Know there. But if someone else could see my story+response data, I would not really be bothered. Gaze upon my naked numbers! Be blinded by my glory! Yada yada...

I've avoided the whole app "thing." At some point such toys just get in the way of living real life. And knowing what your "favorited" stat is, isn't exactly arms and legs. Once you know (or think you do)--so what?

The top 250 list is being gamed by at least one person and possible more than one and has been for several years now. The numbers are almost meaningless now.

The same with the top story favorites list.

Huh. When I search on those exact parameters, I get several pages of hits; the first four are my own member pages, all of the rest (as far as I checked) were favorites pages of people who've faved me or my stories.

Do you have any concept of what it would take to piece all of that together to get a "maybe" stat, which doesn't mean all that much anyway?

Which leads to the "better way" TSB asked about, if an author is going to do all of that work for an iffy result, the author has the ability to build the stat him/herself. The favorites are reported to the author and maintained for 30 days in the author's view. For an assured number, the author could maintain a separate manual file of who has him/her on author favorited status. That would be a real number and no less cumbersome that the iffy exercise of wading through google lists. (I have nearly 1,200 favorite author votes on Lit., but using your method, I only came up with seven google pages, with most listings not giving me the name of someone who favorited me as an author. So, again, I don't think this gets you very far to any real number--and the chore of compiling them from that source would be onerous anyway. Better that I just indexed them myself from the getgo or even a little later.)

Not that I'd bother doing any of that. But then I'm in the top 250, so I don't have to.

Just so you know, it worked for me as well. I got 12 pages of hits. The first four were mine. Of course I don't know if that's all of them, and unlike some of the respondents, I only have a years worth of material, so there may be some time limit associated with when you were favorited. I don't know, but I do know that the search worked for me. Pretty cool, if not authoritative.

Don't become heartbroken if you are unfavorited. Some people use the favorite/unfavorite tagging to bookmark a story, or an author, that they are currently reading.

I used to do that - favorited a story that I wanted to come back to, then un-fav'd when I was done. When I started getting un-fav'd mystelf I started keeping those stories I wanted to come back to, or was waiting for a continuation, on a spreadsheet.

The problem is that I've got a whole slew of favorited stories and authors on my favorites page, many left over from those early days and I don't want to give someone else a 'broken heart' in their recent activity.

So my favorites page looks a little bloated with both authors and stories I truly like and those I saved to go back to way back when.
