Homeland Security deputy press secretary arrested
Brian J. Doyle was arrested near his home in Maryland for trying to seduce a 14-year-old girl over the internet

A U.S. Department of Homeland Security official was arrested Tuesday after he had, among other things, sexually explicit conversations with a person who he thought was a 14-year-old girl, authorities said.
Brian J. Doyle, 55, the federal agency's deputy press secretary, was actually talking to an undercover Polk County Sheriff's Office detective. Investigators said he sent hard-core pornographic movie clips to the "girl" over the Internet, used instant messaging to have explicit conversations with her and encouraged her to purchase a Web camera so they could exchange graphic photos.
Doyle was arrested in his Maryland home Tuesday night on 23 Polk County counts related to using a computer to seduce a child and transmitting harmful materials to a minor. He will be extradited to Florida in the coming days.
Russ Knocke, press secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, would give only a brief statement:
"We take the allegations very seriously and we will cooperate with the ongoing investigation," he said.
Polk County investigators said the incident started March 12. Doyle contacted the undercover detective who was posing as a girl through her Internet profile and started a sexually explicit conversation with her.
"On many occasions, Doyle instructed the 'victim' .�|.�|. to perform a sexual act while thinking of him, and described explicit and perverse sexual acts he wished to have with her, in addition to sending her numerous obscene [digital movies]," the Sheriff's Office said in a written statement.
Doyle gave the girl his office and government-issued cell phone numbers. He called the girl from his office phone so they could have explicit telephone conversations.
"Many of the conversations he initiated with the 'victim' are too extraordinary and graphic for public release," the Sheriff's Office said.
On March 27, a Polk County circuit court judge reviewed the pornographic movies and the next day a warrant was issued for Doyle's arrest.
Doyle was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on 7 counts of use of a computer to seduce a minor and 16 counts of transmission of harmful materials to a minor.
Agents with Homeland Security's Inspector General's Office, the U.S. Secret Service, Montgomery County police and the Polk County Sheriff's Office, armed with a search warrant, seized his home computer.
