Should Hollywood just admit that they love BDSM and openly incorporate it into movies? Or do you think that they should still secretly covet the lifestyle, and never really admit they are kinksters like the rest of us?

What a nice poll !

I voted the third option because I think Hollywood , like film producers in other countries, by one side should be more open and less hypocrite towards BDSM contents , on the other side it's really a big fun to discover the implicit meanings and hints of kinkiness often directors hide in apparently innocent movies ;) :rose:

If movies start showing BDSM scenes, I'll gladly go pay the box office price, the down side is people will start trying what they in the movie cause it looked cool. Just think how many trolls and fakers would popping up if a major film starting in with the kinky themes.

It will be a cold day in hell when hollywood starts showing BDSM in major productions. Would be fun if they would, but they probably never will.

I voted to leave it simply because, like babiesmiles said, it is fun to catch the kinkiness that other people miss. Also I am sure we all know kids that get into movies they shouldn't and I just don't like the thought of my 16/17 year old brothers getting to see more than they already manage to sneak from their dad's porn collection.

Keep the Balance

I voted to keep it pretty much as is. There will always be a few inventive directors and writers who will push the envelope or reveal a bit more of what is lurking beneath the surface, but too much more and there'll be a a backlash that takes us too far in the other direction.

Plus, it is kinda nice to be in on the secret. It's not quite as much fun when everyone knows.

As soon as hollywood gets it, they take all the fun off it. Some things better nevre come to happen...

i'd much rather Hollywood leave BDSM alone. i loved the Secretary (although now all the vanillas out there probably think ALL submissives are into cutting), loved 9 1/2 weeks too (fell asleep halfway through it ... 3 times now .. but i fall asleep while watching most things).

BUT ...

It's rare that i see BDSM displayed in the movies as an example of a healthy relationship/fetish/kink, rather than twisting all of of the possibilities of BDSM it into something negative & sick.

Perhaps this is what draws their audiences though, and SELLS.

i have a brother more than a decade younger than myself, & i have children. Hollywood's job is to rate films (G, PG, PG-13, R etc) accordingly based on the ages of intended audience. There's nothing wrong with sexual content (of fetish quality or not) in films ... Hollywood shouldn't have to play babysitter in deciding what to show in films directed at mature/adult audiences based on the risk of children sneeking a peek though, parental supervision is intended to take on that responsability. ;)

Should alcohol be banned just because little Johnny sneaks into his dad's liquer cabinet, or because dad neglected to keep Johnny OUT of the cabinet?

Should cigarretes be banned because Johnny steals a few of dad's when dad is not watching?

Parents need to keep tabs on what children view, not Hollywood.

Yes, yes, yes! Great line and so very true.

That said, I voted to leave it alone for all the valid reasons already posted.

The Religious right have enough to bitch about, I don't think Hollyweird should add to the list.

Until Hollywood gets over it's need to over sensationalize it, they should leave it alone. It's kinda cool to see bdsm becoming more mainstream, but they're perpetuating too many stereotype, too many myths. Like in Secretary. I know a cutter, and she's so sick of people telling her all she needs is a Dom to hurt her "properly" and it'll be all better. It's not about the pain, people; I'm not even sure it's a control issue with her anymore. So Someone ordering her to stop is a bit of a joke. The stereotype about the evil sick master just needing someone to work their aggressions out and make it acceptable seems screwed up, too. I remember when my mum caught my sister reading a romance novel, I think it was Barbara Cartland... Her primary reason for yelling was a that a common theme in them was "anything he does to you is okay, as long as loves you. Or says he does." That's the same sort of reasoning that many abuse victims have to de-program. It doesn't work in romance novels, hollywood movies or bdsm.
