Yet another category question - stories without sex

Say you write a nice passionate story which is, broadly speaking, a romance - it's just the passion is emotion and love and all good things, but not blouse-popping breeches-ripping steamy, lustful naked wrestling. Zero actual sex.

Where would you file this? Romance? Non-erotic? ...Somewhere else?

Don't put it in non-erotic unless you don't want anyone to read it.
I published in non-erotic for the Ogg Memorial and it got a fair few reads, votes and comments - but I concede that was a special event. I think you're probably right tbh. I'll probably go with Romance as the closest option.

Ah, another teen romance, right to the edge, but still no cigar. I mean sex. But sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar. They created a doll with a figure of unbelievable proportions; her breasts were gravity-defying, and they called her Barbi. She's romantic, she's loving, she won't put out, she's Barbi. And poor Ken, he has no equipment. What a silly, sad, plastic romance.

If it's romantic, it's not not-erotic. Put it in Romance.

Put it in the category the best fits it and get over the notion that sex in a story is any kind of requirement here.

As I have shown in multiple threads on this subject, there are thousands of stories here; popular stories with high scores and lots of views that contain little or no sex at all. Zilch. Nada.

One I frequently reference is "You Can Go Home Again", posted in Loving Wives by blackrandl1958. It's been here since 2017 and retains its red H easily. You could also refer to several of my stories, especially in the N/N category. Well received, fine scores, good feedback and no sex.

Sorry, not true. The readers may not be as numerous as in the "peak" categories (incest?) but they tend to be pretty laid back and accepting of stories. Of course, there is always the occasional exception, but those can be found anywhere on Lit.

If it's a break-up story (and let's face it, that happens a lot in real life) you may get some grumblings from Romance readers. I tend to put those in Non-erotic even if that is not quite accurate as a label. If it's a relatively happy story, then it should work well in Romance.

I have one story up that has no sex in it. I posted it in Romance and got the following numbers 6.8 K reads, 4.45 stars. Most of the comments were not very favorable, oh well.

I've posted a couple of "fade to black" level stories in Erotic Horror and the lack of explicit sex didn't seem to be a problem.

Literotica categories are full of stories with no sexual content.
Post the story in the category you think it best fits....
I don't believe sexual content is a necessity.... IMO.....
So long as it is an erotic story, they don't all have to be filled with sex...

Yet the score is quite good. The Silent Majority votes rather than makes comments.

I've written several stories without sex and put them in the intended category. Zero reader complaints. Worrying about that is a red herring.

IF there is a spot in your story where a sex scene works put it in. If not, skip it. I hate the stories that are rolling along and then it's "OK stop. we gonna do sex here. Has nothing to do with the story but this site is supposed to be sex stories so gotta put one in."
