Yep, Had A Story Rejected

Well, it finally happened. I had a story rejected for the line, "I mean how many times can a 32 year old guy whack off like a teen?"

Seemed okay to me. The last time I looked 18 and 19 are teens, but the story got kicked out. I think the robot saw the word "teen" and kicked it out. But I don't really know at all how it works.

So now it reads, "I mean how many times can a 32 year old guy whack off?" and resubmitted.

Sheeesh.

If that's what got it rejected all you had to do was return it with that comment in the notes box and it would have been posted as originally written (assuming you are right about why it was rejected).

Folks are making too much out of this. You'd be surprised how often best-seller manuscripts get sent back for rework or further explanation.

You misunderstand me, I'm not making a big deal about this. I found it amusing. I thought my post was lighthearted.

I deleted the word "teen" and resubmitted. It had nothing to do about the story and was a throw away line.

Did the rejection notice actually specify that line as the reason it was rejected, or are you assuming it was?

It isn't a case of misunderstanding. It's a case of assuming (I think--I've not seen a rejection that was specific) and not really having to make a change if that's what you originally wrote. It's a matter of getting it directly in Laurel's attention and not letting possibly wrong assumptions keep the issue going.

A few people reporting rejections have had a line from their story quoted in the notice. That doesn't seem true for everyone.

I'll watch for that occurring in an actual quote of a rejection message rather than a paraphrase. I don't really see Laurel knowingly rejecting a story for the specific sentence given and I don't see a program bot picking out and putting a specific sentence like that in a rejection notice.

If the use of teen was why it was rejected, then what about all of these?

https://search.literotica.com/?query=Teen

And these have the word in the title and many in the tag so um....slipping through doesn't seem to be a legit answer.

Many are from 2021 so "grandfathered in" from the extreme section lit had way back in the day that they absorbed, doesn't cover it either.

If 'teen' is verboten, there's a lot of stories that need to be removed and edited.

OK, I looked at the first story on that list. In the third paragraph, it makes clear that the "teen" is over 18. Problem solved immediately, per Site rules. There is no inconsistency.

The problem isn't the use of "teen" as a tag or title. LAHomedog didn't say he used the word in his story title or tags, so this is an apples and oranges comparison. The problem is that his sentence using the word is ambiguous and there is no clarification that he's talking about an 18 or over teen. When I read that sentence, I imagine he's talking about someone who's not yet an adult. That's the problem.

What is the exact wording of this specific rejection notice?

It quotes the exact line and then gives the underage rules in the FAQ.

None of this matters. I deleted the line and resubmitted. I just found the entire thing amusing and silly.

I think Laurel was pointing her finger at you and saying, "I have my eyes on you, bub."

It's an insignificant problem and an insignificant fix. Just don't sprain anything with all the eye-rolling.

OK, fine, although that isn't what I posted was needed to pin this down. That's another paraphrase, not the text of the rejection. It isn't just about one instance. Folks have to figure out where the edges are for them in instances that come up. I don't need this myself, though, so I'll just let it go as another instance brought up but not pinned down.

Happy writing, submitting, and posting.

Maybe the eye-rolling will act as an exercise and get my eyes out of these damn bifocals!

I thought there were programs combing the new entries for certain words, but who confirmed that for us?

I know this is going to sound paranoid but I almost asked it a couple of months ago. How can we be sure that Laurel hasn't died or quit a while back? Maybe she was replaced like "Miss Lonelyhearts" (the title character of Nathanael West's novel) by someone else, or maybe a team of rotating people. Has anybody here actually met her or even know what she looks like?

Laurel is like Batman. No matter who or what represents her, Laurel is now and forever.

From what I've seen, Laurel runs our writing crap through a word chipper before she looks at what is left. Word salad anyone?

LAHD, this now makes you an official member of the Lit writers club. Your ID and decoder card will show up in the mail one day. That and five dollars will get you a small coffee at Starbucks.

Once had a story that had two characters in it that once knew each other in school some years ago. And then they also break into a school in the story and go through the girl's trauma from all those years ago when she was a child (nonsexual in nature).

I thought that Laurel skimming through it might see too many words that might appear like red flags, so I put in a disclaimer at the beginning about all the characters being over 18, yaddy yadda. It went through no problem. Maybe it wouldn't have otherwise. Who knows. Maybe it's something worth trying in the future if you want the story to go live asap.

Probably not. But bots probably read "teen" and "school". Still I have never had a story sent back to me.

I wasn't talking about just bots. I was wondering if a person named Laurel, who probably did exist once, is still running things. How do we know anything about her?

Do we really need to?

What do we know about you? Are you even a train, a gun, a hill?It might all be a lie.
