You always hear how countries talk about how they "stand up for what they believe" and "how they protect the rights of the oppressed". It usually is just that - talk. Britain is actually doing it by telling bigoted, hate mongers like that asshat Michael Savage, Stephen Donald Black, a white supremacist, and anti-gay preacher Fred Phelps to sit their asses down, shut the fuck up and stay the hell out of our country. Kudos, Brits!

The article that prompted this rant.

I think that a better solution would be to have England invite the assholes over for a visit and then change England's mind when they got there. Then refuse them readmittance to the USA. JMNTHO.

Britain hasn't got the problem we have, with binary thinking, evidently. Its government can assume the right and responsibility to make some common-sense distinctions between dissent and hate speech. :rose:

Did you have a speech impediment with your acronyms, dude? Does that stand for In My Not "Tho" Humble Opinion??? If your answer is "ye'th," I bet they can fix that for ya. :D

Just My Not Too Humble Opinion.

I think.

Or maybe it's Just Make Nice To Horny Ostriches.

WE have quite enough binary thinking (wonderful expression, that).
Fortunately we occasionally get it right.

R. Richard I think that a better solution would be to have England invite the assholes over for a visit and then change England's mind when they got there. Then refuse them re-admittance to the USA.

What a wonderful idea. We should try it.
We did actually return a Dutch MP who's views were considered too risky, though.

It stands for Just My None Too Humble Opinion.

Apparently Michael Savage's feelings are hurt - he's going to sue us for defamation of character for listing him alongside 'hate preachers'. Shame.

How does that even work?

I'm pretty sure if a UK citizen tried to sue the US gov't for a similar procedure, the result would likely be, well, giggling.

I mean, anyone can sue anyone for anything, but it can get thrown out pretty damn quickly.

Awful as he is, compared to the other names on the list he's pretty benign. But I doubt he has much recourse here.

The outcome is Michael Savage is now more important than he was.

It wasn't a judicial procedure to throw these people out but an executive decision by the responsible minister Ms Jacqui Smith the Home Secretary(No 3 in the government).

Recently she has been perceived as a particularly inept minister (she claimed the hire of a porn video on her expenses) so it gave her a chance to look tough.

Her HUSBAND hired the porn video and it was charged to HER expenses. She was not amused.
