Last night my neighbors decided it was just fine to listen to their Mariachi music until 0230 in the morning at high decibles. (No they weren't having a party.) I'll endure that for one night and that's it.
This morning I was out working on the car when my neighbor comes strolling out to drop some mail in the box. I saw him before he saw me and was able to confront him about the music. At first he tried pulling that "I don't speak English" crap, but that didn't work. I've talked with this guy often enough to know he's fluent in English.
I explained to him quite nicely I thought that I didn't care what kind of music he listened to as long as he kept it quiet. He didn't like that and started spouting off at me in Spanish. I shrugged and told him slightly more forcefully that I didn't care what he called me, if he cranked his music tonight or any other night I would be calling the cops on him. He stalked off.
A short time later there was a knock on my door. It was the Property Manager who wanted to know why I was threatening my neighbors. According to my neighbor I was being racist because I wouldn't ask a White to turn down their music. (How wrong he is.)
I started explaining to the Property Manager what had happened when my neighbor decided to turn up his music to the level he had it last night. The Property Manager just looked at me, shook his head and walked away.
So now we'll see what happens tonight.
