Alex pulled in to a parking space outside of the Hotel Fulton. He'd spent the last 8 hours in his old Scout 2, driving 700 miles driving like his hair was on fire and he was in a michael bay movie. Being on time was something that Alex never was, he'd be notoriously 20 minutes late, to everything. This particular morning he was still nursing a hangover from the night before when he’d woken up on his couch realizing what time it was, and how crazy he'd have to drive to get to the convention before it started. 98 percent of the population would call him completely and utterly nuts for trying, the fact that it was 9 am and he was in piece proves it. He knew someone had been looking out for him, Cthulhu, Diablo, God, Buddha or Gozer someone was involved in getting him there alive and would ask for payment later.. From his seat he pulled down his sun visor and looked at his ragged sleep deprived face in the mirror. He had a 5 o'clock shadow that didn't do anything but make him look scruffy, his eyes were a bit bloodshot and he generally just looked like death warmed over. If anything someone might mistake him for a fresh walker for the "Walking Dead".

Alex didn't think he was much to look at really, he was about 5'9” 175lbs, skinny and in OK shape. He tried to work out, “tried” being the operative word, but he ate like he was still 16 and back in High School. The only thing that was saving his still had an over active metabolism. His dark brown hair was normally hidden under a Detroit tigers ball cap and his sky blue eyes framed by the thick square black frames of his glasses, he didn't look like much to anyone, well, at least he didn’t think so. Despite his sister’s encouragement that he was actually good looking. Personally he thought she was just doing her duty as a sister to build his ego.

His attitude about life was pretty much “EH. I’ll get to it eventually..” which pretty much meant “never.” Alex was more a social smoker, a bit of a pot head but he was more of a drinker. Hence the hangover that he was currently still suffering from. All of this makes Alex look like a perpetual slacker, definitely someone “The Dude” would be proud of. But over the last 18 months Alex had steadily taken on some responsibilities in his life. His motivation came out of working more at the local comic shop he'd always visited. One of the few places he felt welcome, and at home. Much more so than his own home. Actually that's why he was here in the first place. He could have never afforded the tickets, the hotel or the gas to drive his old bucket of bolts 700 miles, without a damn good reason. So, when Wayne the store owner had encouraged him to go, saying the shop would send him, as Wayne was getting older and hated to travel anyway. So, this was a damn good reason.

Ok, so that was the main reason Alex was here. Another was to find his goddess of pain. The woman who had lived in his dreams the last year. He'd planned his whole weekend around making sure he'd do a lot of the things Wayne asked him to look for, all the promotional plans, new game materials, the promotional stuff that the major comic companies turned out, He’d go get some books signed, and, be a fan boy too. So while doing that he'd be looking for ‘her’. That her being Sid.. a year ago at the end of the last convention they'd had a tornado of a one night stand. He'd been victim to her DM capabilities the day before as she took 7 hapless victims through one of her dungeons. Barry, who'd always been a bit of a jackass was running his “all powerful” Paladin who'd been bossing everyone around the whole session and from what Alex could figure out Barry was trying to impress her with all his knowledge of obscure rules. which by all appearances only proceeded to piss her off. Alex swore, if Barry was any more dense he’d have mistaken a roll of her eyes as being awe struck, but the rest of the group took it as Sid was plotting how to shove his precious dice down his throat and make Barry choke on them.

From all his gaming sessions, one thing Alex had always remembered… DM's are GOD. If you want to play their games, you play by their rules, or their version of said rules. So, Alex did the only thing he could think of to ease the situation, he did what he thought he should do, He picked up the paladin and tossed him into a pit of angry hellspawn,. A resounding “What the ???” came from the whole party, but as a chaotic neutral character Alex couldn't see any other way to play it. As it turns out, the action worked and most of them made it out alive. Well, all except for Barry.

So, At the end of the Con, he'd spotted Sid headed in the same direction he was, walking the 3 blocks to get a pack of cigarettes, one thing turned into another and they ended up smoking half the pack on their way back to the hotel. They ended up in his hotel room drinking a 12 pack between them and finishing off the weed he'd brought with him. One off balance step had put them in each other’s arms, which resulted in a tornado of lust, sex and the kind of romp that curl your toes. He woke up the next morning next to that goddess, the “Goddess of Pain” as he called her because he couldn't remember ever suffering from such a bad hangover before that night. It was also slightly painful because he watched her silently put her clothes on and slip out without much more than a smile between them. And then she was gone.

Alex was hooked, he had hoped to see her again, if anything just to get caught up in the whirlwind that was around her. So, he'd planned out a few days costumes to wear to try and find her first before she spotted him, least that's how he hoped it would work, He'd have to get to the convention, check in and get in character before she arrived. All of those plans were now completely screwed as he pulled his back pack and suitcase out of the back of his Scout. Closing it up and locking it, he trudged all the way in, lugging his suitcase in one hand his backpack over his shoulder and his 3rd monster in his left hand sipping it just trying to stay awake.

Entering the Lobby his brain wanted to explode, teenage girls dressed in clothes that they could NEVER wear anywhere else, but seemed completely normal for the convention. He shook his head, which did nothing for his headache as he made his way to the check in desk. The dumbass behind the counter was too busy watching a trio of 19 year old's dressed as Batgirl, to where Alex was losing his patience. Screwing up his face, now pissed off he put his hand on the counter which brought the guy out of his trance “It should be under the last name Tyson, T.Y.S.O.N” enunciating and spelling it out for the guy as he stared at them. Flustered the guy finally gave him his cardkeys in a small slip envelope and called up the next customer. Room keys in hand, Alex lugged his suit case behind him and made it through a batch of people all dressed up as Avengers. He made his way to the elevators and leaned his suitcase against a wall as he put his back pack down on top of it. Taking a deep sigh, and closing his eyes he hoped his head would stop throbbing for just a moment or two. Just let him get upstairs without getting seen, he'd have an opportunity to at least freshen up and not look as terrible as he felt, he'd be happy. Taking his glasses off he pinched his nose, blinked his eyes and put his glasses back on. Focused his eyes and looked to his left. He saw her and just about dropped his energy drink.

There she was, dressed much like she had the last time he’d seen her, the shorts, a shirt which was obviously thought provoking, the old battered and well loved boots she’d had on the last time he'd seen her as she walked out of his hotel room. Gulping air in to his lungs his throat went dry. “Oh hell please don’t see me now, not like this..…” Alex thought to himself. He’d stay behind and catch the next elevator, anything not to get spotted.. That was until she DID see he him and she spoke…

“Uh….” “Sup, Bro?”

He let her question hang for a moment. He wasn’t sure she was actually talking to him till he realized she was looking right at him. With his mouth half open he gave her a slight smile, pushed his glasses back up his nose and found himself meekly saying..

“Hi..."

All the air let out of him, and he internally groaned at his stupidity...“You dumbass!" He said to himself.. “Really? That’s all you have to say? You’ve been waiting for a YEAR to see her again and all you say is that?” He’d have to say something else, Alex tried to find his voice and spoke calmly with some sort of confidence... “I heard Barry is back again this year.. although I don’t think he’ll be playing to his Paladin he so dearly loves.”

It was Alex’s subtle attempt at trying to talk about something other than the last time he saw her. Part of him wanted to talk about it, find out why she left without more than a smile. But now that he was here with Sid standing no more than 10 feet away, he felt that saying anything might just diminish how incredible it was. Instead, he found a touch of confidence in that thought. Let the memory be what it was, enjoy what is now... or could be. Letting his comment sit out there for her response, maybe she’d chuckle, or even crack a smile. She didn’t have to respond if she didn’t feel like it, but he hoped to hear her laugh. As if to save him from further embarrassing himself the goofy bunch of con attendees dressed as Avengers migrated over between Alex and Sid. Maybe he could take the next elevator, or sneak out on his floor without her seeing him. He'd wait till everyone got on, then he would and be up front at the doors.

Saved by the loud chime of the arriving elevator, he gathered his backpack and suitcase then filed in after everyone else taking a space near the doors. Alex looked down at his keycard envelope and saw the number “532” and was about to reach out and push the button for the 5th floor when he noticed the button was already lit. He assumed it was one of the attendees so he lost himself in thought about how nice it was to see her, and when he reached the 5th floor he got out, then noticed that Sid was getting out too, being polite he let her go ahead of him, only to see that she turned down the same hallway he did.

He could smell her, as she walked past, something about Sid just made his hair stand up, he could pick up the smell of her cigarettes, the natural pheromones she had were intoxicating. He doubted that Sid wore any sort of perfume, but her natural smell attracted him like a moth to a flame. Watching as she walked in front of him, he couldn't help but watch the subtle sway of her hips moving as she walked. she was were hypnotic just naturally. And as he followed her down the hallway he started to wonder what was underneath those tattered shorts. Hoping not to get busted trying to bore holes through her shorts with his eyes, he tried and failed miserably to keep his eyes up looking for his room number. Finally coming to it, he stopped and fumbled for his key card. Quickly he entered it into the slot and pulled it out. The damn thing didn’t chime, and he didn’t hear the door unlock. "Damn it, is this the right room?" he thought, looking up, he checked the room number to the number written on the key card envelope which matched, so he tried it again. Feeling like the village idiot up on blocks out on display for all to laugh at, his face blushed. He slipped the card in slowly this time then out again watching for the green light and the familiar chime as the door unlocked. He looked out of the corner of his vision and turned to give Sid a slight awkward smile before entering his room.

Entering his room, pulling his suitcase behind him, he crashed against the door as it closed. Groaning he berated himself..“Great Job Alex.. wonderful, now she'll wonder why she slept with you in the first place.” All his well intended plans were shot to hell. Well, at least she knew where he was, if she’d intended on finding him again, or to avoid him at all costs. Walking over to his bed he pulled out his cell phone and called his sister Miranda. "Hey.... Yup... made it, drove like my hair was on fire but I got here.." Listening to his older sister try and scold him while giving him shit he replied "Yea yea... I know.. Look I better go, gotta unpack all my crap and get back out there a few people are probably looking for me." He was partially lying, partially telling the truth, he'd set up to meet a couple of the people from last year's gaming rooms, do a little wondering about and he'd need to pick up a schedule. But he didn't want to stay on the phone with his sister who was a perpetual beacon of happiness. "Yea... Love you too Sis.. I'll call you tomorrow..Bye." shutting off his phone he leaned back on the bed and closed his eyes for the first time in oh.. 24 hours it felt like... he smelled like his clothes had a life of their own so he figured a shower would be best... after a quick nap.... Setting his phone alarm for 2 hrs he'd wake up near noon, just enough time to get some sleep and clean up before getting a bite and taking a walk around... So, tossing his phone to the opposite side of the king sized bed he laid back on the bed and thought of Sid, that soft way of her hips... hypnotic.. and drifted off to sleep.
