XP SP2 & HP Computers

me personally only have installed SP2 on one machine in my network of four or five, and am totally disapointed with it, stupid popups all the time about not being secure enough, will no longer remember window size settings, boots a wee bit slower. Honestly they should have waited and worked more of the bugs out.

LOL!
You do realize your talking about a Microsoft product right?:D

I installed this today. Took freaking forever to do it. And now have read several times today that it might give me lots of trouble.

Very annoyed right now and crossing fingers I didn't fuck up my computer!

i downloaded it to my pc and yes it took forever...i haven't noticed much difference except all the little red x's in my emails instead of pics - and a sound that plays at certain times - and i can't pinpoint why it makes the sound at a particular time - it's not when a pop up is blocked and i have checked all the sounds that i can find on the control panel and properties - seems to make it when i visit certain websites - tripod for one

btw - i have a sony pc

my daughter has a dell pc and after she downloaded it, she couldn't stay connected to the internet - after trying everything she could think of she had an IT professional look at it and everything he thought it was, it wasn't - finally he had to re-install the operating system

At work I've had about a 60% success rate with SP2.

Several machines had to be reformatted and re-installed with the version of Windows XP that comes with SP2.

Right now most the major companies are rightfully requesting people not install SP2, it was obviously released a bit early and still has some problems in it.

On the machines SP2 did install on everything went fine, do make sure if you are going to use a third party firewall like zonealarms that you disable the enhanced firewall in SP2.

thanks!

great information... i have a compaq but have no intention of installing sp2. i've ordered the cd, though, just in case i ever have a need for it.

my uncle, on the other had, is a bigger idiot than i am when it comes to pc's. he has a compaq and an hp. these links have gone on to him. i should probably read them though... i'll have to fix something for him, no doubt.

thanks again!

How do you do that?

If you don't do a clean install and install from the SP-2 disk or from Windows Update site you should:
-turn off your firewall
-turn off your AV
-close all programs. (I would uninstall these and re-install later)
-uninstall any themes you may have installed.
-uninstall all extras like printers, scanners, cameras.
-*make sure your computer is spyware, virus, trjojan free before you install
-Defragment BEFORE and AFTER install.

XP has one built in. To get to it, go to your Network connection in the Control Panel.
Right click on it and choose Properties. It will be under the Advanced tab.
All others you would have had to download and install. A popular one is ZoneAlarm.
It should be shut off when installing SP2. Just simply right clcik on whatever your firewalls icon is down by your clock, and click to either shut it off, or disable
