Fans are upset that Pittsburgh Pirates president spoke at a fundraiser for congressional candidate Rick Saccone

According to a tweet from Washington Post reporter James Hohmann, on March 8, Pirates president Frank Coonelly spoke in support of Pennsylvania state Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Elizabeth), who is running for U.S. Congress in a special election on March 13 against Conor Lamb (D-Mount Lebanon). According to Hohmann's tweet, Coonelly spoke at the Republican Party of Allegheny County's "Spirit of Lincoln" dinner in Green Tree on March 8 and he also brought the Pirate Parrot with him. The dinner served as a fundraising event for Saccone and featured President Donald Trump’s counsel Kellyanne Conway.

Pennsylvania’s largest LGBTQ organization, the Delta Foundation, was also disappointed in the Pirates' apparent support for Saccone. The Pirates have hosted LGBTQ Pride events in the past. But, in a March 9 Facebook post, the Delta Foundation wrote that while Coonelly is entitled to his political opinions, the inclusion of the Pirate Parrot at the event gave the impression that the Pirates organization supports Saccone, who has an anti-LGBTQ record as a state legislator.

In a story about a complaint she and the political consultant filed with the House that was first reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer and The Caucus on Feb. 28, the women alleged Miccarelli had sexually or physically assaulted them and engaged in other abusive behavior over the past six years.

Miccarelli, who got married on Feb. 17, has denied the allegations and has issued subsequent statements proclaiming his innocence.

During a 24-minute speech, Conway noted about a dozen times that she was speaking in her “personal capacity.” Federal investigators publicly chastised her this week for twice violating the Hatch Act by offering support for Moore from the White House. “I took a vacation day today,” she said, to knowing laughter from the assembled partisans.

Conway acknowledged she was the "warm-up band" for the White House's final-days push to preserve a Republican congressional seat in Pennsylvania's 18th district, a working-class region that stretches from the Pittsburgh suburbs to the West Virginia border. The president is scheduled to attend a local rally on Saturday followed by his son, Donald Trump Jr., on Monday.

Trump launches a rescue mission to save GOP seat in Pennsylvania special election

"...a defeat here would nonetheless represent the biggest political humiliation for Trump since he went all in for Senate candidate Roy Moore in Alabama and lost anyway last December. That’s why the White House is sending the calvary.

President Donald Trump will be in the Pittsburgh area Saturday.

Mr. Trump will appear at the Moon Township Atlantic Aviation hangar at Pittsburgh International Airport. The event is set to begin at 7 p.m.; doors open at 4 in the afternoon.

The visit falls just three days before a March 13 special election in Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional District, and Republicans from the White House down have been spending money and making appearances to support state Rep. Rick Saccone, who is vying with Democrat Conor Lamb for the District 18 seat formerly held by Tim Murphy.

I’m about 90% sure this poll is fake news/low qual (thanks for flagging @aaron_schwa) but have sent queries to the “pollster” and will report back to you all.

1. No record of “Timothy Blumenthal” anywhere
2. Intent to collab w/ other fake polls
3. Very sketchy numbers, methods

Just you know, @BRD_polling (the outfit with that supposed PA-18 poll) comes from the same group of scammers that released fake polls in GA-6 and AL-SEN. The goal is to move prediction markets using fake polls for profit.

Really, this is a test of your credulity

Update: THIS is what I got back from “pollster” BRD polling. Not the type of message I ever receive from real pollsters and refuses to pass along information about who fielded the calls.

@brd_polling strongly appears yet fake news pollster

Blumenthal admits that his PA-18 survey was fabricated

A Virginia-based group called the Blumenthal Research Daily released a survey on March 2 at 1:45 p.m. which showed Lamb with a one-point lead over Saccone. The survey was announced via Twitter and has since been retweeted 34 times and liked 46 times, even though the BRD Twitter account only has 36 followers.

Three hours after the survey was released, Timothy Blumenthal, of BRD, posted a statement about the survey announcing that it is fake. “Hello everyone. I guess I’ll just start off with the obvious. Yes, Blumenthal Research Daily is a fake pollster,” wrote Blumenthal on March 2. “The numbers used were random, and I did little to no research before piecing together a rather sloppy google doc.”

It was a pleasure to be @haasbenjamin's wingman in reporting this story about Rick Saccone's time in North Korea

And after this week’s shock announcement that Trump had accepted an invitation to meet the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, Saccone’s experience in Kumho has taken on fresh relevance. Questions about the precise nature of that experience were first raised by blogger Warren Throckmorton.

According to Lambertson, substantial negotiations over KEDO would take place in Pyongyang, with US staff flown in from New York. Lambertson attended these meetings but described his presence at negotiations as “more of an observer”.

“Saccone’s experience would have been exactly the same: he was not negotiating highly sensitive matters with the North Koreans by any means,” he added.

Frankly speaking, he didn’t meet any important North Koreans,” Kim said. “There was a lot more contact between North Koreans and South Koreans.

“Of all the Americans I worked with, I would rank Saccone at the bottom.”

Although Saccone has said that he lived in North Korea for one year, Lambertson and Kim said his position was shared among two or three people, with each rotating in for a maximum period of about six weeks.

Yeah, and I live there.

There is a very real possibility Lamb might win the seat in a district the con artist won by 20 points. I think the con artist is supposed to be here today to try and shore up support, that's how bad it is for Republicans.

As to the Pirate thing, that's just plain dumb on so many levels.
