What are your strenghts as a writer?

Please don't post what you perceive as your weaknesses or things you want to improve on etc! And no ass kissing of others.

I want to hear what you think is good about your writing, even if you think there is only one thing, or others might not agree. If you can't post even 1 thing, then you need to go and find out. [me in assertive mode!]

My brevity.

Story concept(plotline), caring characters.

The criticism I've had a writer, from other writers, (I've had not enough priase to give me the confidence to believe that I actually have any strengths), has been along the lines of "You have a good imagination", usually qualified at length.

Taking this post down.

Sorry. I'm very superstitious.

characters and dialogue. My characters are always real, never forced, and they can talk for hours. Sometimes I can't get them to shut up long enough to do anything.

Dialogue is something I know i write well and I bring characters alive.

I struggle with plot but once inspiration hits I can write a good bit of plot :)

my language is very descriptive and detailed, which makes my stories vivid and multi-layered.

Ok, thats all the blowing of my own trumpet i can manage *L*

Dialogue.

Perhaps, use of humor.

I've been told I'm good at using settings/weather to reinforce and reflect the emotion of the story.

Character and dialogue is probably my strongest point. I get letters all the time from people raving about my characters, and as arrogant as it may sound, I agree with them. They're real to me, too. Dialogue is just an extension of the character, and without it the charcater wouldn't be as real. I'm good at plotting and pacing. I know when and how to reveal certain details for maximum effect. I think I have excellent comic timing, which I found to be more difficult in the written word.

1. Prosodics. I care a lot about the tempo and sound of a text, that it reflects the mood I'm trying to convey with the semantic side of it.
2. Plot. I really enjoy piecing together a story with parralell themes, plots, sub-plots, so that it all comes together in a plausible way.
3. Ignorance. I probably break a lot of conventions in my writing, because I simply don't know about them. More often than not with a positive result, it seems. I've had people comment my stuff with "You can't say that! but what the hell...um, yeah...go right ahead."

My POV character is always great at introspection.

My dialogue is very strong. (I feel that's a cop out, though -- 'cause it's so damned easy to write dialogue. I don't have to think about mechanics, passive voice, etc. It just flows.)

I'm a very good speller, above average with grammar, and competent with punctuation.

I weave a decent character-driven plot and (for longer works) an engaging story.

(I'm finding it quite difficult to refrain from adding buts to note known weaknesses.)

Thank you SO much for fixing that possessive error in your sig line, too!

Dialect

I may seriously screw over alot of stuff in my writing, but I am good at regional dialects. My NaNo novel actual has characters with all my strongest dialects and it actually works. But I love listening to people talk. If something happens where there is local commentary, I am hooked on the news. If I go someplace I am getting people to just talk. Greatest Dialect of the year was this guy at a gas station in West Virginia. One of those places that sells bait (fish and deer) and has a 'resturant' in it but the no shoes no shirt sign is noticably absent. Dude had the most interesting way of speaking. A combo of growing up in the foothills BUT going to 2 years of school at morgantown. Wasted a good halfhour just talking to the guy instead of driving cross country like we should have been doing.

Pulling the reader into the story...

Showing/telling enough about the characters for people to want to care about them whether they are good or bad

I attempt to capture realism. I want the reader to care about the characters. I'm trying to discover for myself what people think and get into the character's psyche

And you're really good with bold fonts.

(Just kidding. Hi and welcome to the forum.)

My creation of situations, that at very least, stick my characters just over the line of the extremes they would normally shy away from, or that they didn't know existed.

Thanks for asking.

Description. I'm good at making the setting and characters real creations.

Emotion. I can transmit what the characters are feeling.

Plot. In my longer stories, I do a good job of putting together a scenario, and surprising the reader without jarring them from the tale.

That's right, scare the guy off.

Tear jerks and romance are my strong suits, everything else, I'm working on.
