Writing Question

Hi folks,

I have a question. I have written a pretty large story (more than 20 MS Word pages) and now I am not sure, if I should post it in one installment or several chapters ...

What do you think would be better? One installment and risking people quitting after a couple of pages or several chapters?

If they don't make it through that many pages, what will make them want to sit through that many seperate chapters?

I only release in chapters if that's the way the story wrote itself in the first place, with each chapter having a beginning middle and ending. Otherwise (and this hasn't happened yet) I would just release it as one long story, no matter how many pages it ended up being.

And 20 Word pages is only about 3 Lit pages long, which is about average as far as I'm concerned (some of my favorite stories on lit go up to 7 or 10 lit pages).

Well, 20MS Word pages is around 8000 words, and will take up 3 Lit pages. I would post it as is. Most of my work is in the range of 50 pages of MS Word, and it hasn't hurt the number of reads I get....

I'd only divide it into chapters if it truly lends itself to that. Lit pages are pretty long compared to Word pages (like 1 to 5 or thereabouts) so your story might only be 3 or 4 pages in Lit. To divide it up would mean a bunch of 1 page chapters which wouldn't be so good, or a two chapter story which isn't so great either.

It's actually over 14.000 words ... but I've checked how many are on one lit page (about 3.700) ... so it really is just about 3-4 lit pages. Wouldn't have guessed.

So I will post it as one.
