Writing out of your box

You'd think it would be a bit daunting, wouldn't you?

I mean, you have your comfort zone, and the way in which you always tend to write, and you like writing like that, and within that type of story. But then, out of the blue, an opportunity comes your way, and you write something completely different; something you hadn't thought of writing before, and it's a very liberating and eye-opening experience.

Romance, here I come. ;)

Seriously, I wrote a letter last night, to help someone out here who had a great idea, but was getting frustrated at maybe not being able to pull it off in time. It was to be a romantic/erotic letter, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I knew I could write the description of the acts well, but could I get the tone right? Bloody hell, I had fun writing it, and honestly didn't realise I could write such romantic, erotic, sensual stuff, without it ending up being downright pornographic and maybe even homicidal. I submitted it earlier today (she suggested I do so) with a dedication to her and her hubby for their wedding anniversary. :)

I can write "nice" things. :p :D

Pffffft.

Double Pfffft.

You can write anything you set your mind to. We all know it. I'm glad you are getting an inkling :)

Grats!

Fantastic, Twat! I'm proud of you and know just the liberation you speak of. I started out with Romance and then began the smut. I'm very much looking forward to trying my hand at some un-smutty Drama and eventually working into the Mystery/Thriller genre, though that one will take much time and prep. Good on you, beautiful. I can't wait to read it.

Erotica WAS writing out of my box. My experience until I penned my very first Lit submission (barely 18 months ago) was exclusively OpEds and activist rants. Wrote my very first poem just last fall.

Now, there are still quite a few frontiers in the various genre of erotica. D

Way to go Lou!

Now you just need to try writing sci-fi / romance / psycho-thriller / historical / alternate history / mystery / self-help / stories.

You are too kind. ;)

Thanks, love. I was seriously chuffed with myself, though, to realise I could write a very romantic and sensual piece. Shouldn't really have been a surprise to me, cos deep down I am quite a sensual and romantic person. :)

I started all this as a storyteller...I never wrote down things I came up with much, except poems. But I had told various stories over the years, coming up with them as a gamemaster in role-playing, or stories for the neighbors kids. One ex-girlfriend got told a story one day while she was recovering from a DNC and that ended up being a long swords & sorcery tale that I told her bits and pieces of over the rest of our time together. Never wrote it down, and it is all lost now.

Erotica came about because I enjoyed reading them. Much better to my mind than visual porn. (not that I can't/don't enjoy that). So I thought I'd give it a try.

Thanks, babe.

Yep, so glad you understood what I meant. It can be quite an epiphany, can't it? There's no holding any of us back now. ;)

I've written a mystery/thriller/erotic horror novel, btw, and loved every minute of writing that one (although it still needs finishing off!).

It shouldn't have been a surprise because you are an extremely talented writer. The only bounds on your ability are those you place on yourself Lou. You're that good.

Blimey, girl! I didn't realise you'd been in this "game" for such a short period of time.

Bitch. ;)

Seriously, I'm well impressed! :D

That's great, Bel! It never ceases to amaze me how we all ended up writing this stuff. Perverts that we are. ;) But I totally agree about erotic stories being better than the vast majority of visual porn (I can't deny that some of it does it for me!). That's exactly why I began writing erotica, too: to write out some of my fantasies.

I know you can do this Lou. Deep down you just a fuzzy wuzzy, candle burning, incense burning, hearts & candies, sugar & spice, warm massage oil kind of girl.

Wearing spurs.

No no no, one story that is all of those at once. The ultimate uber story that is so fucking cross category that all categories pale to try to contain it.

 I'm from Texas..... Don't all girls wear spurs??????

Congrats Lou... :rose:

we all knew you could do it once you put down the whips and chains... :catroar:

I have several boxes but I'm always doing something different. So I have a pretty big box of boxes to start with. There are some lines I have no desre to cross but anything else is a good bet.

Yeah, that's what I meant. :D

I've written a mystery/thriller/erotic horror/supernatural novel. I've also written an erotic horror/mystery/sci-fi/psycho-thriller/self help (of a kind, cos if they don't help themselves, then no bugger will!)/love/lesbian/group sex/suspense/tentacle porn/alien novel.

:D :p

Size isn't everything, honey. ;)

(But, I gotta say, it does help!!!)

Go you! :D

some of the comments on written erotica versus filmed porn remind me of a quote I once read. Can't remember where, don't remember who, but the gist of it was -

I prefer radio to television because the pictures are better

I think I can relate to that :)

Alex

PS: Must try some new genres . . .

Yep, good quote. I can definitely relate to that!

YOU could certainly do anything you put your mind to.

How did I miss those? Was I reading drunk again?

and erotic horro/mystery/sci-fi/psycho-thriller/self-help/love/lesbian/group sex/ suspense/ tentacle porn alien novels are my favorites.

Wait, by suspense do you mean like "beguiled and wondering" or "supported from above by ropes or wires"? Cause the beguiling stuff involves way too much plot stuff. And people tied up and hanging from the rafters is soooo sexy ;)

I'm talking "beguiled and wondering" plot all the way, baby, yeah.

(Sorry, my longer stuff is more than just sex. Only just, mind you. :D)

I don't have any of my novels published online. They are getting sent out to agents, with my fingers firmly crossed. ;)

Edited to add: oh yeah, the penny just dropped, I get you on the last bit! You BAD! :D ;)
