I don't know if this is the best place to put this thread but in with both feet I go.

This is a story I intend to add to often, at least daily I hope.

Your comments and ideas as I move through this work in progress are appreciated but I can't guarantee a return of the favour until a few things in my life are sorted out.

If you read and enjoy, I'm glad to have entertained you.

Sienna blended into the brown and tan tones of the autumn foliage. This September blessing of summery temperatures had tempted her out of the house and to the lake. The sky reflected off the water in that deep sapphire only fall can produce. Frostnipped leaves of the white birches lined the shore around the point in sharp contrast to the blue of the mirrorlike surface. She turned, walking along the path to climb towards the top of the point and the spectacular view back towards town which was her reason for visiting the park in the first place.

The young woman wasn't alone on the path, a family was blustering down toward her with breathless laughter warning of their presence a while before they came into view. Sienna stepped to the edge of the trail and smiled a greeting to the mother of an energetic little boy as he scampered agily down the slope in front of his father. The adult was slowed by common sense and the boy gleefully stood waiting at the foot of the hill for his dad. The mother shrugged as she grinned back then slid away to meet them beside the beach.

She saw a slim man, about her age, sitting on a bench of cedar planks and hesitated at the edge of the clearing. The view from this vantage never failed to cheer and inspire her and she wished she could have been alone with it this afternoon. Instead she stepped closer and came up short when she heard him cough, a pronounced rattle in his chest warning her of coming too close. He coughed a second time, deeper and more vigorously, freeing the congestion which he delicately disposed of into a tissue and tossed into the trash beside him.

He looked up, effectively stopping her in her tracks with his eyes that were almost the same colour as the lake behind her. "Wow," she said, breathless at the beauty, if beauty were a word she could use to describe a man, of his eyes. He was too thin but Sienna could imagine how his jaw would round slightly and his eyes would move forward in his face once he was fed and healthy. She blinked and straightened up, since she had started to unconciously lean towards his compelling eyes.

"Hello," he said, "I hope you're going to introduce yourself after the intimate look at your tonsils I just had."

Sienna could feel the blush as she slammed her jaw closed. "Oh man! I mean--," she stammered on, "ermm... Hello! I'm Sienna Williams and you're ...?" She stuck out her hand before remembering his cough. How could she withdraw her offer of a handshake without looking rude?

He elegantly rescued her by turning his head and releasing a phony cough into his hand. When he turned back he smiled an apology, "I beg you're pardon, I was just released from hospital yesterday; bronchitis, you see? And I needed to stop for a rest. I'm Samuel Barnes. Pleased to meet you Sienna."

She'd taken the opportunity to pull her hand back when he'd coughed, and now she sat on the other end of the bench. "I'm surprised you made it this far, Samuel--"

"Call me Sam please."

"Okay, Sam. If you're just out of hospital, I'd have guessed the walk up must have left you exhausted! But, I guess it's worth it for the view."
