People get really upset when anyone suggests that writing is anything but difficult. Well, I just want to say that I think writing is easy.

That doesnt' mean it's not agonizing.

Writing IS easy. First graders do it all the time. Creating stories so interesting people will pay money to read them, that's one agonizing bitch-and for some of us, damn near impossible.

Writing has always been easy for me- it's my number one strength- so much so that I sometimes undervalue it. Sometimes the less hard you try, the better it is (how many bad examples have you seen of people trying to be 'writerly'?) I can usually write something interesting and entertaining without *too* much agony (it's the showing and waiting that's agonizing here).

It's when you're working on a project that means a lot to you, that you have high hopes for, and/or that is close to you in some way- in otherwords the writing that really matters and means something- that it becomes agonizing. You have to fight with yourself to sit down and write the words- I guess to face yourself. (Never thought about it that way, but it's kinda like that scene in Never Ending Story where Bastion has to face his own reflection, I always wondered what that meant, lol) The more agonizing, and nearly impossible it is too write, the more you know that you need to write it. That's the real agony. (sucks don't it?)

I guess it all goes back to that old qote: Writing is easy, just open a vein. You can write great stuff without opening a vein- but you can't write Great stuff without opening a vein ;)
