A useful little guide to writing, even when the rest of the world needs your attention. Worth a look if you're struggling to get any writing down :)

Nice article, Oh I guess AH is one of the distractions too.

Damn I'm so screwed.

One size doesnt fit all.

Until you find what works for you, nothing ever works well enough.

I thought the advice about not researching was interesting, as it's something I've not considered before. I've always considered research to be a wonderful stimulus for plot-bunnies and creative thought, but my writing days tend to die a death as soon as research is called for, as it's just one click onto the web that kills it all.

WOW. DAMN.

Dude is a farkin' genius.

I follow most of his advice when I sit down to write. Most effective is my use of Textpad (glad to see he knows about that) in Windows or nedit or Gedit (glad to see he knows about THAT, too!) in Linux, all three are powerful text editors that go down to the bare bones when you need them to. They offer me little distraction. The "TK" advice is damned helpful for me because once I start googling, well, all is lost.

I'd add onto his advice... go to Starbucks, where you have to pay to get online, and where you're otherwise unable to get online. Sit and write. Install Wordweb and Mobysaurus Thesaurus for reference tools. Take certain Wikipedia pages you might refer to and turn them into PDF's using PDF Creator. I also copy a ton of name ideas off babynames.com and Seventhsanctum when I'm not writing, and keep those name ideas in reserve, as this has become quite a bedeviling issue for me at times.
