I think I'm already a pretty decent writer, however I'd like to improve in the areas of characterization and the situational environment (e.g. environmental sounds and smells, weather and the like) and the mood of the story. If anyone would like to read one of my stories and make suggestions along those lines, I'd love to hear them.

Try one of these two:
Mounted By a Cowboy (10/8/2013)
A young ranch hand is initiated to gay sex.

Bolero

Couple things. One, please edit out your e-mail from your post. That's against the rules(you can put it in your profile however)

Other thing is you'll get a better response in the forum I linked below, its specifically for what you're looking for.

Good luck

I've removed my email address from my message, however, even though my email address is in my profile, when I click on my name on the top left of the screen, it brings up a different profile and under 'contact info' it says no information is provide. So how is someone supposed to contact me?

Either do it publicly here, or use Personal Messaging. That is what PM is for. It's off by default, so just set it on and tell people to PM you.

Be sure to turn on Private Messages.

* To switch on your Private Messages, go to User CP (top left of this page), click on Edit Options (in the left hand column), and then tick Enable Private Messaging in the second box down. Make sure that the box titled Receive Private Messages only from Buddies and Moderators is NOT ticked. Finally, click Save Changes at the bottom of that page.

No-one outside your brain knows what you want to do with your writing. The chances are poor that we will be able to give you input consistent with your goals. If you want to improve, then maybe the best way is to read, find out how other writers do what you want to do, then write until you find a way to make that happen.

Maybe that won't happen. Maybe it isn't you're natural style.

Read plenty of good writing. I mean good writing. And observe where the best writers go wrong, and all step in shit.

...

If you look through the How-To category you will find plenty of essays offering advice. Some are good, some are so-so but might give you ideas, and some are useless.

The other way is to read prolifically, not just on Literotica. As you read, try to work out what the writer is doing to create a mood, describe a setting etc.

Even the dreadful opening 'It was a dark and stormy night' works if you read it in full:

"It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents — except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness.” — Edward George Bulwer-Lytton, Paul Clifford (1830)

If you take out the part inside the brackets you should get a reasonable picture of the scene.

From what I've seen, the few people who provide feedback to stories posted in that forum don't read Gay Male.

I think your best bet is to reach out to people who comment on stories in Gay Male. Look for someone who provides the type of feedback you are looking for. Some of them won't have PM's enabled, so you'll probably have to contact several.
