I read a message from another poster a few minutes back where he mentioned that he had just started posting to Literotica. Before that, no one other than close friends had ever read one of his stories. I read that and thought, "My close friends are exactly who I do NOT want reading my stories." My erotic writing is only done with the lovely anonymity which Literotica provides. So, with those thoughts, here is a Poll. Who has read your stories on Literotica? Apologies if this is old. I couldn't find it through searching.

So please take my poll!

There is a follow-up. If you have never shown your stories to people offline, do they even know you write them?

I have a wonderful SO whom I met here, so she's read all my filth.
I also have some pretty laid back friends, so a few of them have had the experience.
I also found out that my ex-step-father had read some and that was ... er ... interesting. (Damn computer hack!) *snicker*
At least he laughed and complimented the writing.

So I haven't had any issues with it thus far.

I'm pretty sure my parents had sex.

My daughter is aware.

My husband snared me by writing it to me online...so...

Yup, it's out there.

I have a group of friends that are queer and sex-positive, and they get spammed everytime a new story comes out.
Some of my closest friends? I don't think so.
It depends on which genre, too-
my husband reads everything, but not critically, like I wish he would.
I've given my mother the "Torch" story to read, and she was very touched. My father wasn't interested in a story about men. He would read if I wrote about his kind of woman- Playboy playmates. My sister would read the vanilla stuff if I weren't the author...

I have a group of friends that I share my writing with online and offline.... I know some read my new stuff as soon as it is posted... some help me in the editting process... some are just there to read it and tell me if they got off

heck I have written stories for people before that were friends.... they love having their sex all over Lit

My wife has read some of my stories and doesn't care for them. She is rather straight-laced and would rather I would quit, but doen't really feel strongly about it. She could access my stories any time she wanted but probably doesn't. I have some other relatives who also know about it and could read anything they want. I don't know if they do or not because we have nevfer discussed it.

I make no bones about what I write.

If people don't like it, that's their problem.

Most of my friends have read at least one, if not more, of my stories, and my mother even knows what I write.

That said, erotica is not all that I write, either.

One of my friends actually has written for Lit for years and he gave me the web address. My friends all know what I write and most support me and vote on my submissions, and I vote on the one guy's submissions when he chooses to submit (which is all too rarely these days).

And, yes, my SO is aware of my submissions and he loves to read my stories and often provides me with a plot line that he would like to see played out. I call him my "idea man." Although, both of our muses have been on hiatus, lately. Too much school/work to cloud the creative minds. Hopefully, when Christmas break rolls around, I'll get back into the swing of things.

I thought it was weird, at first -- about my friends reading my erotica -- then I realized that it's just sex. ;)

My wife has read a little, but not much...my best audience has been a few friends, and one in particular that I used to write with.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I was just kind of curious. From the poll so far it looks like about 2/3rds, a little higher actually, of us let our friends and partners read them. Maybe I will join all of you in this one day, but not yet.

My wife reads all of my stopries and helps with ideas.

My parents have read several of my stories and enjoyed one or two of them.

My brother is shocked by them, but I expect no less from him.

A couple of people offline have read and enjoyed my stories.

I only post my erotica stories. I don't share them with anyone offline. I don't really share them with online friends. They are there. If anyone reads them and write me...I get happy if they like it. When they tell me it is crap...I wonder if they are right.

It's my private thrill of feedback. I respond to all my feedback emails that include addresses.

I do write mainstream for editors and publishers. Not as exciting of a process or as personal.

Actually, this is one of the issues that keeps me from finishing and publishing the stories I've started.

Clearly, I need to start hanging with a better crowd. ;)

Not to expose my own issues to the world, but the unspoken imperative to use what writing talent I have in some sort of "betterment", whatever that means, makes it really difficult to actually finish something I begin. I can do it for work, since the goals are more defined and quantifiable. For my own enjoyment, and the possible enjoyment of others: I feel hamstrung.

I guess that's why I gravitate towards the political threads. I can write towards a position with some confidence. Writing about a position, I'm on shakier ground.

I used to post on FictionPress because I enjoyed praise from strangers.

Now I only share with a few friends, mainly one I know won't think I'm crazy.

My family will never read anything I write.

My husband reads all my stories, and will help me edit them too, he's doing that more now, I think he was afraid to upset me before, but he's finally got the message that if he thinks it's crap I need to knoe so i can improve it! :D

My sister knows i write erotica, I don't know if she's read any of it. I don't know if Mum knows and i know Dad doesn't know. I don't think it'd be the end of the world if they found out, but i'm not eager to tell them either *L*

I have a devoted group of online friends that reads my stories and then complain that I didn't have THEM edit or proofread. Which I should have them do.

I've showed one offline person one story and he freaked about it, but only because I mentioned him in it, I think. Whatever.

Mostly, I try to write to get the ideas out of my head and onto 'paper.' I try to write well, but sometimes it comes down to quantity over quality.

I started writing stories for and about my online friends and I could tell that my quality, what little there was, rapidly declined, so no more. Well, maybe one more.

Anyway, no family or my SO, to the best of my knowledge, know that I write erotica. I wouldn't care if my SO did, but family is right out.

I shared all my stories with my ex-wife, who was very open and loved just about each one of them. My new wife is a bit more conservative, but recently I noticed on her side of the computer, she had a link set up in her favorites to read my stories since I often post to a site outside of Literotica (I know...bad huh?). Knowing her as I do, I think she really likes my stories, but does not dare say so. Part of it comes from her profession as an Elementary Teacher. She must be conservative outwardly, but there are times you can really see the naughty side of her wanting to come out.
