Just an idea, something I've been thinking of setting up and wanted to see if anyone would be interested before I wasted time (and threads) setting up something that only I would write in :D

But I figure most of us come here for the writing and it would be a fun little game for people to try out new techniques, ideas etc. and encourage people to read stuff from others they might not yet have encountered :)

Basically my idea is to give a prompt at the start of the month (a picture, a word, a phrase, a piece of music etc.) and people have a week or so to come up with a piece of erotica based on that prompt (I would create a thread for people to post their submissions in). Then people can leave comments/constructive reviews (and ONLY constructive! I don't mean they have to be outrageously flattering but if you have a suggestion to make, do it constructively!!) on the entries in a 'sister' thread each month.

Suggestions for future prompts can be PM'd to me and I'll stick 4-5 up on the 1st of each month and peoples can vote on them until say the 5th so that it's not my choice every month! Submissions can then take place from the 6th of the month until say the 20th to allow people time to read them all before the next month's prompt and thread goes up.

Anyway, if peoples are interested, will set it up for the 1st January 2011 and see what happens!

Thoughts please....

Wanted to add...

The submission can take whatever form the writer chooses...a poem, a short scene, a full short story...whatever they are inspired to write... :D

I'd be interested in it, but only to a point tho Brit, and maybe it would defeat the purpose maybe. Please don't take offense.
I'd be interested in having to exercise my mind by writing on a subject not of my choosing but under my control...but not to be voted on. I just personally would be fine with posting, having it read, suggestions offered on improvements.., but not then voted on.

Does that make sense..? If that can be done, fine..ie we'd have a choice as to how far into the process we could go.

This is why I'm soooooooooo glad I posted the idea before setting up threads that might put people off joining in.
If voting might be a problem, will remove that part :D

Will have a thread for submissions and a 'sister' thread for constructive (and ONLY constructive) reviews and comments to be given for individual posts or the prompt in general etc.

To stop me picking the prompt every month, people can PM their suggestions for prompts and I'll stick 4 or 5 up at the start of each month for people to vote on and pick the one we use :)
If that makes any sense...

I'd be in; in theory. My time is extremely limited for writing now but I'd certainly enjoy this kind of exercise. I'd only ask if, like Alana, we could forego the voting element.

Seems like a fine idea, I'd be interested. I'd suggest the voting element be optional, if you want to put up your piece of work for voting that's fine.

Yay! So glad people might want to join in at some point!

I totally understand about people not always having the time to write but that's why I was hoping having a monthly challenge would enable people to try when and if they had time. There is no obligation to post every month. If you post once its entirely up to you if you join in the following month and so on...

And I can add voting on pieces if authors wish it but I think it might work just as well without it :D

Fingers crossed a few more people consider joining in the fun

I will be watching this with interest, and whenever I find time I will definitely try my hand at it

Yay woo! Fantastic potential additions to the challenge!!
Am ever so excited now!!
All there is left for me to do now is to find a prompt to start this whole thing off... ;)

Just thought I'd add my name as an interested party. One thing I might recommend is putting a word cap on the submissions. I mean, I doubt that a lot of people are interested in reading multiple 20,000+ word submissions so that they can offer feedback on all of them. I'm sure everyone like for their own entries to be read and to get feedback, so keeping people from writing a novel that slows everything down and draws attention away from shorter submissions seems like a good idea.

I'm thinking about 2,000 words as a cap, unless there are objections to that. Maybe even each individual prompt can come with its own word cap, ie, a 500 word scene with this picture, a 1,000 word cap about this phrase, etc.

Ooooh more potential people :D

And must say I agree with the idea of a word cap and had already got the magic number of 2,500 in my mind. Some people write posts of that length regularly and so wouldn't want to put them off joining in if they thought they would have to curtail their style.

I might put shorter word caps in place now and then, just as an extra challenge ;) (The occasional challenge of 250 words or less and that sort of thing) but I think 2,500 is a good starting point for the time being.

It does sound like fun!

I will be able to read little segments of everyone's delightful writing and it will be all in one place.

Great idea Britwitch :rose:

Count Me In!

I am super interested in this. It'll get my foot in the door around this place! I feel I’m too new to go about asking for SRPs, and even if I’m not I don’t think I have credible evidence that I am as literate as I claim I am without it. So either way this idea goes for my favor and I appreciate you coming up with it.

Great to see there's so much interest Brit. Looking forward to seeing it come together.:)

There's several of us willing to give "newbies" a try. At the very least I know I am, we were all new here once.
