I found in my submissions control panel screen, or whatever you want to call that place, about the option to be listed here. It states that you must have at least one approved submission to do so, and I do. It also states that you can view others' profiles by going to the site. Yet, when I click that link, I'm prompted for a password. I've tried my password for the showdolly account, but it doesn't work.

Do I need to sign up somewhere else in order to be able to view this site? I'm not sure I'm going to list myself right away, but I'd like to see what types of information others are putting in their profiles and get a general idea of how the place operates, etc.

Any help is appreciated.

You are slightly confused I fear, as most people are. The here I have highlighted above is not where you are now. There are three distinct sets of editors, Site Editors who approve stories and two sorts of Volunteer Editors (see Site Editors vs Volunteer Editors).

Of the Volunteer Editors, Lit keeps the official list (which I think is your here) and this forum contains the unofficial ones, though many of us are both.

I think you mean that you want to join the official list, and that can take weeks before you are admitted to those hallowed portals. It may be that the National Security Agency of the US Government has to check you out first, I don't know. That list is in some disrepute at the moment because many of the people on it do not respond to emails. This is because Lit does not periodically check their availability for editing and delete them if they don't reply. To examine the list go to here and click on Login at the top. That will take you to your Control Panel (which is NOT the same as User CP top left of this page) and in the left hand column click on Find an Editor. That will take you to an editor page and right at the bottom you will find Browse full list (which takes you in to the list) or an option to search the list if you prefer.

The difficulties you are having sound odd to me so, if they persist, send a PM to Manu explaining exactly what happens and I'm sure he will help you out. (Manu runs the technical side here, and Laurel runs the literary side.)

As to posting and discussing on this Forum, that you can do already (because you have) and you are free to respond to any of the many requests for editing which appear here. When doing so, it may help to indicate your background so the author has some idea what they are getting. My pedigree is here if you would like to see a sample.

LOL No, I'm sorry. I've confused you I think.

The "here" I've referenced above is the Literotica. Writers. com site itself. In my control panel as a writer over on the story site, which I'm well aware is completely separate from this forum site and the CP here, there is a place to be listed in what is called the "Writer's Marketplace".

The Marketplace is where I hope to read current writer profiles and consider having myself listed, as a writer there.

Sorry for the confusion! Is this clearer? (And, I did realize today, that I've posted this in the wrong forum accidentally! Forgive me; I thought I was in the Author's Hangout!) :rose:

If I'm not mistaken, that portion of the site has never worked or at least it hasn't been opened yet. Manu keeps talking about big things coming up but i thought he meant on a more personal level. It's kind of like the groups thing in the profiles. They are there but no one knows why.

It seems to resemble the eleventh dimension: it probably exists, but nobody has a clue how to gain access.

Isn't it a misnomer to refer to the people that approve the stories as editors? As far as I know, they don't perform any editting functions, and only approve, or reject new stories. I would think moderator would be a better term for the people at the top.

It's true, of course, that there are a dozen different types of editors, some of whom rarely edit, but usage of the term in this instance does seem like a misnomer.

The only potential problem with calling them moderators would be confusion with the people who moderate the forums.

"Selection committee" or "acceptance committee" would be a bit unwieldy, and "judges" or "jurors" seems to imply jail time for those who mix metaphors or commit comma confusion.

Better nomenclature must exist, nevertheless. Perhaps this is the place for one of the "made-up words" being debated in another thread? :)

I think something in fake German, like Uberzeitsenstoryappovenunddenyenkontroller...

What is wrong with the perfectly normal English word, arbitrator(s)?

I use the singular/plural ambiguity because there are some writers who still insist that Laurel is a single person who reads everything that is submitted, just as some people claim that alll the technical work is done by a single person called Manu.

The only drawback to renaming them is that they call themselves "editors" as in:

The yellow E's denote "Editor's Choice" stories. These are pieces that we really like - just our opinion.

Arbitrator would be fine, so long as there are no bikers, hockey players, or inner city residents for whom the word might have totally different connotations.

Of course, the matter would become moot if more people would read "Site Editors vs Volunteer Editors and Other Quick Facts" but...

What about "ADMIN"???

And, I completely agree about reading the "Site Editors vs. Volunteer Editors" post. It's really that simple. Yet, for some reason, there are a lot of people who don't read it, or even open thread similar to what they plan to post to see what answers have already been given. [sigh]

Yabut, there's just one problem with your suggestion, it's too logical, and makes too much sense...:D

"Isn't it a misnomer to refer to the people that approve the stories as editors?"

No. This function is performed by an "acquisitions editor" in the publishing industry. Three "editor" stovepipes: Acquisitions editor, manuscript editor, production editor. Three distinctively different functions; all called editor.
