Writers Block

I have writers block.... its like I get a pretty good idea and then BAM I can't get it down on paper.

Someone... anyone... HELP.

I want to do a serious romance..... and I can't think of anything

When in doubt, do what all writers do--steal. Have a story with two lovers kept apart by warring families. Or two lovers who meet in the middle of a terrible disaster or on a battlefield. Or the girl is supposed to marry some rich jackass but falls for a guy from the wrong side of the tracks. Find the most banal, hackneyed, cliche-ridden situation and work some magic to turn it into something interesting.

There is no such thing as writers block. Just park your ass in the chair and write something. Trust your imagination. If what you write today stinks, tear it up and start anew the next day. But do the work. It'll come.

Write Like Hell!

If you saw the movie "Finding Forrester" you might recall the scene where the Sean Connery character was seated across from the aspiring writer who stared and stared at the blank sheet of paper in his typewriter while Connery clattered away at the keys. His suggestion to the boy was similar to christo's, that he start copying a piece by someone else, letting his fingers fly until his own voice and story begins to arise. Writing is about writing, not thinking about writing. Let your fingers do the walking for you! Write, write, write, then edit, edit, edit. And good luck!

It's an annoying affliction for sure. Whenever you feel inspired by a thought, write it down. Have a file where you can keep all your random thoughts for future retrieval. If you get a real good idea, but it doesn't 'fit' with the story, save it for another time. You'd be surprised the way coming across something you jotted down in the past can suddenly unlock your mind to new ideas at a later date.

I'd suggest not forcing things, take your time on the creative front - unless fits of anger help to clear your mind! If it's a romance story you really want to do, why not cite your own experiences / fantasies?
