Writer's Block

Writers block, I do everything but write. Find things and activities to inspire me, it doesn't always work though. I haven't written in a few months, I just can't seem to get the words or ideas to produce.

I write something else...if I can't write my novel, I write in my journal, or an academic kind of paper. I have quite a few stories in development...I flip between them.

the age old question....what do you do when you've got it?

usually I end up writing essays = )

just sit down and start writing about something that's pissing you off, whether it be an idiot boss who freaked out on you when his wife turned all bizarre, or when you found out that by doing your job you were breaking the law. random stuff like that. ;)

I would really like to attribute this to the person that first posted it but I've forgotten who it was:rolleyes:

However, in essence what they said was that they have a couple of stories which they can't finish, it's not writers block it's actually disinterest in, or indifference to the story.

Well worth thinking about. Perhaps if you can't carry on with the story it's because it doesn't interest you enough? If that's the case then why would anyone else be interested?

"Bored now..."

I'm w/Gauche and the anonymous person. I've never had writer's block but I used to get pathologically bored and that stopped everything in life. Haven't felt that way for 15+ years I think.

You can't call yourself a writer if you've never...

...written yourself into a corner and just randomly killed one of the characters and opened a hundred loose ends to the plot.

Honestly when I get the block I just read or enjoy some other activity and come back to writing when the bug returns. Sometimes I edit a little. Let's not pretend the world is waiting for my next submission, I have not put anything new in half a year.

thanks :)
yeah, i'll ususally flip back and forth between poetry and stories when i'm stuck...every word i've written has been a dead end.

oh it'll happen, DAMNIT! :p

Congratulations! glad to hear the dry spell is over. :D

I find it works well to open up a new plot. If you're in a writers block and not sure what to do, come up with some random event for your character. (or steal a random event if you're really desperate). This should give you the push you need to keep going. It works well for me anyway.

That and working on three thousand different projects at one time. I write minimum 7 pages per day but it can be on any topic, any story. As long as its something. It's amazing how much one can get done that way.
