I've been asked to continue/finish my story that I started earlier this year.

I'm stuck.

I've done chapters 1-7, and I'm kinda stuck on chapter 8. It's posted throughout my journal, and on lit. I have an Idea of what's coming next, but I need a jump start/cattle prod to get going.

Michelle and Mark have been in stasis for months...her arms and knees are probably quite sore by now. The game was going quite well...and then I got busy and just threw together a chapter (very few reviews). I don't want to do that again, cuz it's not fair to the characters or readers.

Anybody else get stuck? How do you get back on track? Anybody ever just abandon a story?

Stuck? Yes. Abandoned story? Yes.

Getting back on track is more complicated. The drive needed to work on a story comes and goes. Sometimes you get stuck because you've burned yourself out and your brain's letting you know that you need to step away for a few days, weeks, or even months. If that's the case, listen to it and the urge to write will eventually return to you.

Whatever you do, don't force yourself to write when you're not ready. You'll make yourself miserable and your story will look like shit.

Occasionally my characters stop talking to me. Why? Who knows. Maybe they get pissed off at my bitchyness. Then the story just sits. I have on that's sat for two years.

I've abandoned lots of stories, not because I was stuck, but because I thought they were shit.

:)
