I've just received my mobile phone bill.

It's £403.

I'm a little bit startled by this.

The problem is that I know exactly why it's so much and how it's my fault. I have used my mobile as a modem during my current time of no internet and, seeing as you guys are a big part of my support network when I'm down, I used it frequently last month. I was under the impression that those calls counted as calltime, rather than data messaging and so was expecting a large percentage to be counted under my free minutes.

Apparently not.

Bugger.

Like I said, I'm a little bit startled by this development. It hasn't bankrupted me (god bless my student overdraft), but I can think of a lot more fun ways of spending £403 and I am still slightly disconcerted by the fact that this will be disappearing out of my bank account tomorrow.

Any sage words that can be offered would be nice about now.

Shut Up! :)

Seriously, that sucks. My newest carrier makes it hard to see what you (and most importantly, my teenager) is doing until the bill comes. Some months, it would be cheaper if he had a drug problem.

What's more, the US carriers at least, seem to design their marketing around teenagers bankdrupting their parents (or themselves).

You're dealing with this very calmly, Earl :rose:

I don't know how the hell you're managing to keep your cool, actually. Respect

I'm putting it down to shock.

I guess I kinda needed the contact I had with you guys that cost me that £400, but I can also think of some fun things that I could've done with it. Frankly, I love you people, but I'm not 100% sure that I love you £400 worth. I could've gone visiting again with that kind of money.

Anyways, I guess it's gone now. Just have to adapt to that in the budget and work on not eating so much.

:(

I'm sorry, Earl... it makes me physically ill when things like that happen, especially when due to my own error... like the time I accidentally threw away a $200 gift card with a bunch of mail sitting on the table... That one still makes me queasy just thinking about it...

There was the time I accidently paid my mortgage twice online and couldn't get it back and bounced about 20 checks... and so paid $400 in bank fees (plus store fees) on top of it... talk about being short for the month! Ugh.

Your scenario reminds me of the days when Internet access charged by the hour... AND you had to pay the long-distance dial-up fee... I dreaded the phone/internet bill every month...

I totally understand your shock. :(

Earl, the best way to think about it is -it's only money.

I've not quite run up that much, but I have dealt with massive phone/internet bills in my lifetime, bank charges and idiots at NTL...it is kinda shocking and you will kick yourself over it for a while, but least you have funds to cover it...you'd be buggered if you didn't.

Oh, and as my siste knows, I'm good with food parcels, I'll send you down some grub if you need some to help with the finances :D

In that case, I'm absolutely penniless, poverty-stricken and bankrupt. The student loans people are coming in to repossess my clothes in a few minutes.

You said something about free food? :D

Ack. That's horrible!

My advice? Open a Paypal account and start accepting donations from fellow Litsters (like me!) who enjoy/benefit from your company. ;)

For you, dear. Anything...well, not quite anything, I can't stretch to lobster and caviar. ;)

It is an honest offer though, I'm sure I can whip up some food for a poverty stricken student :D
