As many of you know I have a herd of cats. (5 of them.) In the past I have been running with three litterboxes, and struggling to keep them emptied every day.

Then I decided to splurge a bit and I got one of those automatic Litterboxes. You know the ones, they have a rake at one end that goes across after a set amount of time after something has blocked the sensor. It cost a bit, almost $90.00.

Well I've had this thing for two weeks and have sat back and checked over the costs and effort involved with it.

With the old system I was emptying the litterboxes every day. I was sifting and dumping and going through three 30 pound containers of litter a week.

With the new box I find I am removing the container every other day, adding a bit of litter every day, (With a complete litter change at the end of the week.) I am going through 20 pounds of litter a week with no odor.

The cats have stopped using the other boxes.

I find I'm savng over $100.00 a week with this thing.

The only problem I have is the rake doesn't always drop back down at the end of the cycle so I have to push the unused litter back into the pan. (I think I can fix this with a bit of grinding and wax.)

Anyone else used one of these?

No, but I think we're going to!

Very cool, Cat!

All your cats use just the one box now?

Hey Sweets,

Yeah they all use the one box. We have two others around the place but they don't use them. They all seem to like the new one.

My wife and I have been talking about getting rid of the extra boxes but have been keeping them just in case.

I was thinking of getting one for my father. He adopted two kittens from Hurricane Ike and i know the house is tore up. I figure that would ease his suffering some. :)

I had one and it never worked right after the first few weeks. The rake wouldn't return or something. I don't remember. It was great while it did work, however. I'm not certain if I'd invest the money again for a new one, although not dealing with a litterbox as often would be a welcome change.

Now if it would only walk to the curb and take the used litter to the garbage pick up! lol

I have one +sized box (one over weight cat-give her a break she has a eating disorder!lol) and the Man-child is to clean it ever morning and every night-doesn't happen.
I am tempted, when my pays start rolling in to pick one of these puppies up, do they come in extra large?
