Last week the wife and I decided to replace the DVD Player we were using as well as the sound system. Both were giving us problems.
We checked out a couple of stores and weren't finding what we wanted. All we wanted was a single system. Something that would play a single DVD and maybe even hook into the TV. We didn't want a lot of power, 100 or 200 watts was all we needed. (Our living room is small.) We also didn't want to shell out a lot of green.
We were getting a bit unhappy when we hit one store. Their smaller systems were more than we wanted to pay. They wanted over $200.00 for any of the systems in our size range. I was starting to think about heading down to BrandSmart and picking up an old el cheapo DVD Player. Then I noticed a system over on the "As Is" rack. I wandered over and looked it over.
It was a bit larger than I wanted but it was the right kind of system. I could run the TV sound through it. It had a built in DVD Player and it was only $50.00. I looked it over and found that the problem was the wires to the speakers had broken off. I paid the money and brought the system home.
It took a couple of minutes to open up the speakers and replace the wires. It wasn't hard work but it was a bit picky. I went out and picked up some good quality shielded wires for this. I set up the system, I placed the speakers and ran the wires for them. That was last week and I didn't finish until late in the evening on Friday. Because we had to work the next several days I never fired up the system.
This evening we fired up the system and dropped a DVD into it. (The Fifth Element if you need to know.) I sat back in my chair as my wife settled down on the couch. I hit play and nearly got knocked out of my chair. I rapidly turned down the volume.
Maybe a 1000 Watt System is a bit much for a living room that is all of ten feet deep by thirteen feet wide. On the other hand we could hear everything quite clearly.
I have the feeling I'm going to have to be carefull with this new sound system.
