*sigh* They tell you why it was rejected. If you post that a story has been rejected and fail to mention why, no one can help you fix what might be a simple fix.

Yes, it was. I see stories being re-written and resubmitted all the time. The first stories were received very well, but had some criticisms I thought were very valid, so I re-wrote them, embellished some areas and cut out some others. I took 2 stories and made 3 out of them because one of the criticisms was that I had rushed the ending, so I wrote the ending as the whole 3rd part.
This is the second time this has happened to me. I was up until 3am for several nights writing, what I felt, was probably good work, only to have it, "rejected". I'm just fed up.
It suggested I find an editor, but there are a ton of them and they all have their little specialties. How are you supposed to find someone if you don't know what you're looking for.
I just deleted the entries....all of them, they were going to publish the 3rd part with out the first two, that would have made no sense to anyone.
I'm just really, really frustrated.
I've been working on another, spin off, story that I've been very proud of so far, but I am forgetting about it now because I don't want to waste any more time only to have it too, rejected.

If it was a replacement for a story already in the file by that title (which that reason for rejection suggests), it just means that you needed to handle this by the edit process, not the submission process. To do that, you submit the text with the same title it's replacing and the word EDIT behind the title. It would be good to include that this is a edited replacement in the notes box so that it goes to the human editor and she knows what it represents.

The FAQs on you submission page should explain how to submit and edited version of a story already posted.

SR's right -- there are various reasons for rejection, ranging from incorrect punctuation to formatting to disallowed subject matter like underage sex. If you click on the word "rejected", it should tell you why.

If you were trying to replace a story and did not include "Edit" in the title of the resubmission, it will probably get rejected on the basis of having the same title (although I thought that happened almost instantly). If you could tell us what reason it gave you for rejection, we could give more helpful feedback.

Also, remember this is not the only place to submit stories. You can go to StoriesOnline.net (no rules there) or any other number of erotic story sites, or there's always making your own site/blog and putting it there. Just because this is a large site (perhaps the largest of this kind?) doesn't mean it's the be-all and end-all of posting stories.

I had submitted the first story under the title, Picture perfect. I got a lot of question and I wrote a companion story entitled, Not so picture perfect to answer some of the questions. I received tons of comments and criticisms, some were very valid, so I thought I would do a re-write. I called them, "Picture perfect trilogy," parts 1, 2, & 3..
I deleted the stories already and I don't remember exactly what it said, but it asked me if the stories were re-writes to replace other stories.
My original stories have been favorited by several people and I hate to cancel them if that what I have to do to get the other ones published.
I know this is not the only site, I did submit the stories in question to another site and have received extremely high marks on them, but this is my favorite site. People here seem to be more serious writers and the stories are quality, unlike most of the other site.
If I resubmit the new stories with, "edit" as suggested, will that wipe out the original stories and all the comments? Will it also be deleted from those people who put it in their favorites?
I spent too much time and effort on these stories, I would really like to see them published.
Also, I am well into another story based on a couple who is mentioned in these stories as a spin off.

I've had occasion to post re-written chapters to stories. Sometimes it goes fine. Another time it was a fucking nightmare.

But to answer your last question. When a re-written version of a story is submitted directly as an (EDIT) story to replace a story or chapter already posted, then all the voting and comments remain in place - only the text changes to the new text you've submitted.

Although, maybe part of your current problem (if I'm understanding this right) is that you're submitting a re-write under a different title? I'm sure that might cause some confusion on the site's part and get them to reject the submission because they don't know for sure what to do with it.

But as either SR or PennLady suggested. Go onto the submission page in your profile. Your two submissions will be listed with 'rejected - reason' on the right. If you click on 'reason' you will find a note explaining their rational. It may be valid or it may be bullshit, but at least it will give you something to work with.

Another possibility - I'm just starting into the process of transferring my stories over to Amazon kindle direct publishing. Might be something to consider.

The usual answer you find here for problems like this is "PM Laurel" but I've not found that to be terribly helpful in resolving problems.

NO! I wasn't sure from your previous posts what title you'd re-submitted under. But it seems essential that if you want to replace a currently posted chapter/story with a new one then the new one has to be submitted under the same title and chapter number (I also make sure the submission is under the same category as the original, too). It seems you'll have the most likelihood of success if all the submission information - title, chapter number, category - is identical to what you want to replace.

If you, indeed, have done this, just wait for them to be deleted from the files and then just submit the stories as you want as them new stories.

Yes, all of the original comments and votes will then disappear.

If you want anything else, I suggest you PM Laurel through the PM system (top right on this page) and explain what you want to do to her. You may be able to cancel you delete and substitute an edit and preserve your ratings and comments, but I've never done it, so I don't know if it will work.

No. I wouldn't do it that way. As I mentioned in my last reply the best way to get editted chapters up correctly is to be sure the title, chapter number and category are identical to the first.

There's another method for doing this, and since you're changing the title of your stories I'd suggest doing it this way.

Delete your stories entirely.

Do a submission and in the title field enter "Picture Perfect (DELETE)", check the category it's in, and write both in the story field and the comment field "Please delete this story." and then submit just like that. Do the same thing for the other story. "Not So Picture Perfect (DELETE)" in the title field, check the category, put in the story field and the comment field "Please delete this story" and submit it. It will take the same time as a normal submission to take effect, maybe 3 days. But in 3 or so days your stories will disappear.

Then just submit the new stories under their new name as original submissions. The one drawback to this method is that all scoring and comments will disappear when the original stories are deleted. But since you're changing the name of the stories I think this is about the only way to do it and make sure it gets done right. You might want to put a foreword for the readers on the new stories that what they're reading are re-writes of the previous stories just so they know what's going on.

But that method of deleting and replacing should take out of the process all the uncertainty about what is supposed to be replaced.

For SOL, you have to save your file as "Web page, filtered" so it has a .htm or .html extension rather than .doc

Also, all your coding for italics, bold, etc., need to be changed to { } as opposed to the < > that Lit uses. A simple Find/Replace will switch those over with a minimum of fuss.

I recommend you read the Author and Site Guides on the Authors/Editors page before you try to submit your stories again, especially the articles about text formatting and how to submit your stories. It wouldn't be a bad idea to read Lit's submission FAQ's as well, if you haven't already.

I just seem to be getting more and more frustrated by the minute. I love to write this stuff, otherwise I wouldn't do it. I have a very busy work schedule and I usually wind up writing in the wee hours of the morning. I have three stories I can't seem to get published, one in the works that I don't want to publish with out the other three, and another chapter to an already published story, but one I think they could possibly not publish because there is some violence in it. The first one also has some violence but rules on some of this stuff seems to have a lot of gray areas.
A while back I wrote two stories, both with a certain amount of forced sex. They published the one with the most violence and rejected the other saying it had too much violence. It made no sense to me at that time and it still doesn't.
I wrote to the webmaster here to see if he has any suggestions, if not.....I give up!
Some people have suggested I PM to Laura, but I find no place from where to do that?
As I said, I'm just getting more frustrated by the minute.

It should say Welcome" and your posting name in bold. Under that is "Private Message" underlined. Click on that and you are in the PM system.

Okay, giving it another try

Okay, I have resubmitted all three stories again, this time with notes. I also PM'd Laurel to ask for her help.
I really hate to see these not get published. One, I've worked hard on them, and two, I am already well into a spin-off story based on a couple mentioned in them.
We'll see how it goes.

He is bothered, and I hope whatever confusion there is gets cleared up. However, that's between nakdsub and the site owner/operator. If he wants to write, he can write, there are other sites to submit to -- StoriesOnline.net, LushStories, EroticStories.com, AfterDark-Online.com and ASSTR.org to name a few (not recommending, just noting).

SOL and ASSTR have no rules (as I understand it), or few at least as regards content, so if Lit says "no," as I said, that's hardly the end of it.

And some people write and write and never submit anywhere. They just do it because they want to. And that's fine.
