an airport worker who is reported to know how to take off but not land the plane, called 911...
The drama began soon after 5am Saturday when Patterson stole the Beechcraft King Air 90 plane. At 9.30am he posted a goodbye message on Facebook. “Sorry everyone. Never actually wanted to hurt anyone. I love my parents and sister this isn’t your fault. Goodbye,” Patterson wrote.

That marked the beginning of an erratic flight. Fifteen minutes later, Patterson called 911, warning that he planned to crash into a Tupelo Walmart. Officers evacuated people from the Walmart and a nearby convenience store.

the flight route looks absolutely crazy! So, anyway, it lands and no-one's hurt. Hopefully, he gets the kind of help he needs, whatever it is. The downside? How many other indoctrinated/deranged/heartbroken/kamikaze types might see this as a good idea and not call ahead?

Kinda like that guy who stole a Dash 8 from SeaTac a few years ago and tooled around Puget Sound for of couple of hours 'til he ran out of fuel. Except he crashed on a sparsely populated island.. Didn't survive but no one else was hurt.

Serious story, and unfortunately not without precedent. And I have to laugh and groan at newsies who think a King Air is a “small aircraft”!

C’mon! A small aircraft holds one person, 5 gallons of gas and starts with a pull rope!

Some King Airs operate as commuter airliners!
