Would you go to the extremes as to willfully be savagely beaten and tortured in order to make a political statement?
Some Arab people living in the middle-east publicly speak out against their oppressive governments so they will be arrested, detained, beaten, brutally tortured and even executed, all to make further validate their points. This happened frequently under Saddam Hussein's dictatorship in Iraq.
There are also some Bhuddist monks in Tibet who do this against their communist Chinese oppressors to make a point.
