Would you slow down for this? Would it be allowed in the US?

A Road Safety Campaign in Denmark has caused some controversy. The intention is to get young male drivers to slow down in towns. The video has been successful in getting male attention:

Danish Road Safety

Would it make you think twice about speeding?

Could this video be shown on prime time TV in the US?

Depends on the Network, it might but the naughty bits would be blured.

I so love gems like this that incite so many people, while putting a whacky twist on the "make ya think" theme. :D Shirt's off to those planners.

The way the U.S. would work it, the lovely blonde would end up being Rose O'Donald and the street would become a traffic hazard of it's own due to the extraordinary build up of BARF.

I can't believe someone actually made the argument that it's wrong to assume young men only think about sex. WTF??? I do agree it's pathetic that they need to resort to that. Personally I'd prefer they hire more cops, paid for by the huge number of tickets they'd be writing out. I'm not a fan of coddling people who don't like obeying the laws.

I've driven a lot (done delivery for several companies) and have had a number of close calls (including a child running out in front of my car in a parking lot, from behind a post) and there is a reason why driving safely is important. I have no problem with my state doling out $350 fines for people who speed in construction zones (there have been a number of accidents resulting in construction worker deaths). People who don't think the law applies to them can pay for their beliefs. If you do the math, speeding doesn't get you there much faster (unless you're driving over a great distance and encounter no traffic). There's no real reason to do it beside that you feel like it.

The video could be played on some of the networks, most likely the cable networks. Of course, the boobs would still have to be pixelated or blurred.

Personally, I'm wondering how many traffic accidents the topless babes caused.

Des,

This is America, Land of the Free. We are free to drive anyway we want, as fast as we want and as insanely as we want. Damn the Traffic Laws!!! Full speed ahead!...

Remember the line from Arlo Guthery? "And that's the feeling you should have when you sing. Like you just squashed a cop" :D :D :D :D :D

And you never speed. uh-huh, sure.

eta: just what we need in the U.S.: more power-hungry uneducated idiots with a badge and a gun. Just great.

You mean the country where people spun out of control and acted like kids who'd just seen a blinking light and gone into a seizure when Janet Jackson accidently (?) flashed a nipple during a football game half-time?

No non-cable, prime time network would have the courage. Especially since the FCC has gotten even stricter on what television can show. They're tossing out fines like candy for the slightest infraction.

I applaud the Danish for thinking creatively to solve a problem, but like she says, it would never in a million years be seen anywhere in the U.S.

Sex-Ed

Some years ago the Swedes issued a contraceptive advice film that showed dancing condoms.

I presume the FCC would ban that?

Definitely. There are no condom ads on tv. None.

And no condom trade names painted in large type on racing cars in the Indy 500?

That, I don't know. I don't watch racing.

Local newspaper adverts...

These are a few advertisements from a local newspaper that is delivered free to all households. Would these be allowed in the US in a paper that is hand delivered by schoolchildren?

There is a disclaimer from the publishers.

"Blank Blank Newspapers advises readers that the content of the advertisements in this section relate to products and services of an adult nature."

The service adverts:

1. Angelica's Oriental Massage. Young, beautiful. Waiting for you. Visiting available.

2. Vicky's Massage. Mature Lady. 7 days a week. OAPs* welcome. No rush, your place or mine. All night stays at yours or at hotel etc. 11.30am til late.

My note: * OAP = Old Age Pensioner

3. *Two new girls daily* All fantasies fulfilled. Two girl live show. 7 Days.

The phone line adverts:

1. GAY/BI Hot Chat. Calls cost 10p a minute.
2. Dirty Live Chat With Couples. £0.35 a minute.
3. 30 Second Quick Relief. In my bedroom waiting for your call. £1 a minute.

I am now fairly certain that Ogg is having fun rubbing our noses in our puritanistic culture, not asking a serious question. :p

So...does the gal in the first line do US visits?

There need to be female breasts involved for people to actually obey the speed limit? I don't know if there are even enough words for how pathetic that is....

As for the video, I agree. I'm sure the 'bits' would be blurred.

Actually, I've seen ads for Trojan Condoms but only on FOX late at night after midnight. Appearantly, teenagers aren't supposed to know about them.

As far as racing cars, Nope. Never happen.

No. I am serious. There are regional variations within the United Kingdom about what is permissible in a local newspaper.

There are variations between European countries. What the French can do for lingerie adverts on daytime TV has to be shown after 9pm here. We have TV programmes showing sexually overt TV shows and adverts from around the world but we see them late at night.

Are there regional variations in the US media? Are there subjects that are taboo in the Mid West and allowed in California? Would something shock New Hampshire and bore Florida?

Og

PS. Pay her enough. Get her a work permit and visa - she'll come anywhere...
PPS. Vicky is a long-term member of our local Chamber of Commerce. She is often willing to give a donation to Chamber functions, in cash or in kind...
