Hi all - I have been an avid fan of literotica for years and years, but though I've lurked on the boards, never made the leap to being an active member.

I'm writing because I'm creating a theatrical project that explores the topic of women's sexual fantasies and I wanted to invite the literotica authors to offer their suggestions (or possibly contribute a piece!). I'm thinking of this as less strip-club with words, and more like erotica campfire. The focus is on women's sexual fantasies, but I'd be delighted to hear from anyone with an opinion.

If I'm posting in the wrong area, please feel free to give me that feedback, or if you have any advice, I'm open to hearing it. I can't imagine a better community for this discussion.

Here' the official invite:

INVITING DESIRE- an invitation to writers of all persuasions

You are encouraged to submit your hottest, wettest, juiciest, squirmiest sexual fantasy for possible inclusion in a new theatrical performance entitled “Inviting Desire.”

We are creating an ensemble theatre piece that will explore the topic of women’s sexual fantasies. The source material we are currently inspired by comes primarily from the collections of Nancy Friday and includes “My Secret Garden” “Forbidden Flowers” and “Women on Top.” However, we are eager to include many writers (both professional and amateur).

You are welcome to submit anonymously, and we are happy to either credit your work to your real name, a nom de plume or anonymous. We will not credit specific pieces; only include your participation in the show as a whole.

This creation will consist of 4 or 5 actresses bringing to life a selection of sexual fantasies. The purpose is to create a piece of theatre that is provocative, funny, sexy and thought provoking. We seek to celebrate the rich creativity and imagination of our libido as well as expose and explore the dark corners of our sexual visions.

We are looking for both unusual and vanilla fantasies, incorporating any manner of kink or taboo. They must be told or described from a woman’s perspective, and should not be more than 5 pages in length. We reserve the right to edit and cut as needed for length and clarity, should we use your material.

Please submit your work to InvitingDesire@gmail.com

Inviting Desire will premiere at The Fertile Ground Festival in Portland, OR – a city-wide festival of new work that will run January 22- Feb 1.

Please send an email if you’d like to be put on the mailing list for further announcements and information, or if you have any questions or need further clarification.

INVITING DESIRE - " because there's nothing wrong with being turned on"

Theatre at it’s best illicits a visceral response in the audience – an opportunity to experience big emotions – anger, sadness, joy, grief, fear…but very rarely, desire. This new work, a collaborative piece created by an ensemble of local actresses, seeks to do exactly that. Inviting Desire is a provocative theatrical exploration of women’s sexual fantasies. Taken from varied sources, including Nancy Friday’s collections of real women’s sexual fantasies (My Secret Garden, Women on Top) Inviting Desire revels in our sexual creativity and the richness of our libido’s imagination. Authentic and risky, this new work pays homage to the Vagina Monologues and takes them one step further. It dares to ask the question “What goes on in her mind?”

I think some of my stories would work out well as porno movies, but I don't know about stage plays. As Kitty says, what would be in it for the author? I would expect, at least, to get an acknowledgement and a reference to Lit. :D

Sounds to me more like "Oh! Calcutta!" than the Vagina monolgues

But in asnwer to the thread title: YES. (Not the wank-fantasies though)

I see no mention of remuneration here. Is this a free performance?

For a work like this I'm sure there must be government funding. Maybe the National Endowment of the Humantitties.

Get it, endowment?

Oh, never mind.

Ok, you got a snort for that. ;)

(One of my more attractive moments, I'm sure.)

At the risk of sounding flip, there's actually people who enjoy sex in Portland?

Okay, that was bad...but the performance idea is VERY good!

I for one would like to see it done more as a "multi-media" kind of production. A woman reading the fantasy while images that relate and enhance are flashed on a screen behind her and to the side, dancers work out the emotions that go with and a soundtrack just underneath that really makes you sit there and feel all the emotions that go with the piece, like you've just had that kind of sex but never took your clothes off.

But I'm strange and get off on modern theater.

I don't think it's strange. It actually sounds pretty cool. How about the author reading her words? Ok, not cool. Hot.

Hmmmm maybe.....

On the one hand I think it would be way hot, as there would be that sense of "this is MY fantasy" and putting it out there would be an incredible rush and the timing and inflection would be really personal and intimate.

The drawback, not every author is a good public reader. It would take a collection of gifted authors that can read aloud with eloquence and drama, but if you could find them and they would be willing to give a voice to their fantasies.... WOW!

This might be pretty good but, if the story has dialogue, you would need people to provide the voices. I'm not so sure about the dancers, but the images on the screen would be good. In some ways, it would be like a radio show.

No thank you.

I used to write TV and radio commercials, and participated to varying degrees in casting and production. Being present when a cut-rate director and amateur actors wreck a good script is heaven compared to watching a talented actor attempt to salvage a bad script without hurting your - the writer's - feelings.

Just thinking about some of those moments makes me want to throw myself in front of the catering truck. The word "ARGH" does no justice whatsoever to that kind of humiliation.

:rose:
Anyone who thinks that Acting is merely an interpretive art never had to try and make something watchable out of a bad script. It's damned difficult to do! Even so, I've seen it happen a lot more than the reverse.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hey all - I've been in the woods for a few weeks away from my computer and just got a chance to check on this thread. (I actually couldn't find it at first and reposted - my appologies!)

I want to say thanks to those who took the time to respond - I love the multi media idea - I'll see what I can create.

Yes, there are in fact people who love sex in Portland - of which I am one. And I'd like to see that grow! Hence, the show I'm putting together. An experiment in creating lust in a public place with people all around.

Ideas and thoughts are welcome. Sorry to hear the stories of tortured casting sessions and bad actors. My hope is to start with good material and hire fabulous, creative, open minded, adventurous actresses to bring it to life.
